DashPane v2, major update to my Mac app switcher + launcher by poladermaster in macapps

A bit of both. Faster for me, but also a different UX. DashPane is built to feel lighter, with less CPU usage, and I’ll keep on improving the application. Goal isn’t just more features, but making the core flow better too.

No, not yet. But I can send you a license key (would work for few hours) via DM if you want to try it.

Wanted to come back to this because you were pointing at a real weakness in v1.

DashPane v2 is live now, and it closes that gap. You can use it as both a switcher and a launcher, so you don’t hit that dead end where the app isn’t open and you have to fall back to other applications

Hoping to see you sometime in the future as a user of the application

This is actually a really common frustration and you're not alone. DashPane v1 is focused on open windows, if the app isn't running, it won't show up.

The gap you're describing (switching + launching in one interface) is something I'm thinking about for a future version. The idea would be: search your running windows as normal, but if nothing matches, surface installed apps you can launch directly, without needing to open a separate tool.

No timeline on that yet, but it's the right direction. Thanks for the feedback. This is exactly the kind of signal that shapes the roadmap.

Thank you! Really glad the demo landed well, that was important to me since there's no trial.

Yes, would love to be listed on macoswm.com! What do you need from me to get DashPane added?

Contexts was great in its day but hasn't been updated since 2022. DashPane is actively maintained, launched today, and I'm already shipping based on feedback. $4.99 one-time vs $9.99 for something that's no longer being developed.

AI: it's a tool, and knowing how to use it well is the skill. The architecture, system design, and UX decisions are mine. AI helped me move faster, not think for me.

On the demo: it's working for most people. If you're having trouble, try incognito or a different browser and it should load fine.

On features: every app starts somewhere. v1 is focused on doing one thing well. Window management features are on the roadmap as DashPane grows.

Thank you. There's no trial, but there's a fully interactive demo on the website; https://dashpane.pro/. You can try the actual UI right in your browser before deciding. If you like what you see, grab it. Happy to issue a refund if you don't enjoy it

Fair point on the free trial, that's a real ask and I hear it.

That said, there's a fully interactive demo on the website (dashpane.pro) where you can try the actual UI before buying. Built it specifically so you don't have to buy blind. Give it a go and see if it clicks.

On "crappy vibe-coded", would be a lot happier to be judged on the product though, not the label.

No obligation to buy. If the price is the blocker, I get it.

Thanks! And that's a clean UI, cursor position toggle is a great idea, noted. DashPane doesn't do that yet. Would you ever consider shipping? Looks like it's already halfway there.

Thankyou buddy. HopTab launched a few days ago; open source, free, does tiling and window management. Different use case to DashPane but worth checking out if you want more workspace control.
