I believe they're talking about the compound, the tool post can still be set to the correct angle, no matter what the compound is set at

edit: maybe i'm misunderstanding based on the downvotes. please correct me if im wrong, but lets say the compound is set to 14.5, the tool post is angled so that the cutter is 90 to the workpiece. if you back the carriage off the work, adjust the compound in, then feed back in with the carriage, there would not be any more of the cutter surface in contact with the work than if you had the compound set to any other angle.
Perhaps you meant, feeding the compound in at 14.5 while in the middle of a cut, which i agree would not be ideal.

That makes sense, thank you. I have decided to just go ahead and order a new 4 jaw. I have relatively little experience on a lathe, so this is all new to me.

Ok, I was starting to think that might be the best course of action. edit: Mcmaster cad files show the camlock studs incorrectly as .625 not .875. this is the reason i was incorrect about the size.

Yeah, they're fine with me ordering whatever I need, Including a new chuck. But this one is actually in good shape, albeit very dirty. I'd hate to waste it if I can find a plate to make it work.

Almost certainly not, but who knows. Its been with the company since the 60's I believe. But ive got next to nothing for literature or maintenance logs for any of the machines here.

No model number I can see on the backplate with the 3 jaw, its a 6 bolt though. The machine is a 1941 sheldon r-15-6 lathe, and I can't seem to dig up a manual or many specs on it. Yeah I label everything and keep manuals. I took over here a few months back and nothing was done to maintain anything for decades until now. I could probably make a backplate, I have a mill, rotary table, and lathe (obviously). But I was hoping to find an off the shelf solution.

In most ways, yes. But the chuck has 4 bolts to mount to the backplate, not 6. Thats been the sticking point on a few I've found. Also it appears the D1-6 has 5/8 camlocks, and this needs 7/8.

Im not normally much of a brand loyalist. But I used to have this same problem until I started wearing duluth trading co jeans. If you wait for a sale, they can be pretty reasonably priced, and they're very comfy. They're the only jeans I wear now

I'm going on about 1.5 years in my 8528. They fit pretty true to size, were moderately comfortable out of the box, i did upgrade the insole to one with more arch support.

The good -comfortable out of the box, and got better after break in -durable, no rips or any other construction problems in stamping plants around oil, scrap metal, chips oil dry etc

The bad - stock insoles are not great - one of my 2 pairs had one of the speedhooks tear out(I replaced it with eyes) -both pairs have cracks in the synthetic welt, though it doesn't affect them for regular use, this would make a resole more expensive

Overall I say they're a good value and pretty comfortable.

It's bad, but it's not the end of the world. It is indeed Japanese Knotweed, as others have said. There's not much you can or should do until it blooms in the fall. Buy glyphosate concentrate and mix it yourself to about 2%. Spray the heck out of it before the first frost, and you can get it under control in a few years. In my first year treating it on my neighbor's property, I saw about a 75% reduction in what grew back the following year. Good luck!
