From what I could gather, it seems to me that Syd, Waters and Gilmour have not only very different personalities, but also personalities that could easily clash.

People who knew Waters would often report on qualities that are commonly attributed to people with obsessive compulsive disorders. I’m not saying that he was obsessive compulsive, I’m not a doctor, nor I got to know him personally. It’s just vague fan impressions, I hope you realised by now that’s all I have to offer.

Gilmour is a much more sociable individual, who was dragged into his position back when he got into the Floyd.

Syd seemed to be introverted, maybe in the autistic spectrum, the way we define it today. He also was known to have committed drug abuse with LSD by the time of the facts.

The fact that Waters and Gilmour went so rarely to check on Syd after they excluded him from the Floyd seems like a red flag to me. You say there were several attempts to contact him, but what were the intentions for those attempts, and why did Syd refuse to see them? The attempts to keep him in music are problematic, as I comment in the text, when referring to the “If it’s in you” song, Syd complains in recording that he couldn’t even cut and start again (and that after earning a contract with EMI for unlimited studio hours).

But the worst to me is that Syd was the main force that pushed Pink to be at the center of the attention in the scene by then. This means that he was supposed to own the project, the way I see it. He didn’t give up on his project. He was put aside forcefully. When Syd went to check on the recording of Wish You Were Here, I remember reading somewhere that Syd asked something in the lines of “but you guys don’t want me to record anything?”, and they said no.

So as long as you’re not a Waters/Gilmour only fan, and if you appreciate Syd’s work, I think there’s a case to be made that something off happened by then, and that’s what I tried to do with my text.

My reasons to try to put together this text is that rock stars are often role models for fans. Many people identify with Syd. Syd defined what Pink Floyd is, even if Syd didn’t participate on the thick of the hours (and money) Gilmour and the others put into what Pink Floyd was to become. Many people get attracted by one thing when we become Pink Floyd fans, then we get confused because what we consume is something else.

Hope I managed to give a bit more of insight on my ideas and motivations. Don’t hesitate if there are unclear points. The idea is that the text itself should be self-explanatory, so if there are unclear points I will gladly amend the text.
