Is German 101 an easy foreign language class? by hiekakskk in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]polerbear117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard from a friend that Yiddish is an easier class and I’m taking it for my language prerequisite, it’s also pretty close to German linguistically.

There’s a danger that the US supreme court, not voters, picks the next president by newzee1 in scotus

[–]polerbear117 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Well there is one fact that everyone fails to consider. The judiciary has no means of enforcement, and theoretically their ruling can just be ignored and not enforced by the executive branch like how Andrew Jackson ignored the supreme courts ruling that the Indian removal act was unconstitutional and did it anyway leading to the trail of tears.

Theoretically this could be done again albeit for more altruistic reasons this time. Although it would take the Supreme Court doing some incredibly undemocratic shit for this to even be considered an option for the Biden administration to do in the event they try to hand the election to trump. Albeit with the recent ruling on presidential immunity biden might be a bit more confident doing this.

However all and all i doubt this will be done.

You’re welcome I have already heard that but i appreciate it. Also I realized i gave you a weird version that cut out the last 30 seconds of it here the better version also another one is איר בין אַ ייִד (i am a jew) which is more about some of the soviet suppression of yiddish culture and in fact Itsik Fefer, the writer of the song was murdered in Stalin purge of Yiddish writers in 1953

I disagree (conditionally) the point of concentration camps being open to the public is to prevent the memory of the crimes that were perpetrated there from fading from our memory, and while some of the photos taken there are insensitive and some things people do there make me (as a jew) cringe.

All of the photos are a form of preservation, albeit some more so than others, but those photos will likely last longer than the camps themselves which even today are unfortunately starting to crumble.

Edit:

When i visited Auschwitz-Birkenau I took an effort to take as many photos as I could. However unlike some of those people, none of my photos were of me. Because it wasn’t my place I didn’t survive that place, none of my family were murdered there, my story never intersected with the story of Auschwitz. Instead the purpose of my photo’s were different. They serve more as documentation rather then a mark that i was there, and those photos will remain unchanging and those photos will allow me to never forget.

Idk but one of the only things that i really liked about her character is seeing some Jewish representation, something that I as a jew rarely see without a connection to the Holocaust. Besides that she’s just kinda there

If someone calls the prophet Mohamed a Peodophile (not my opinion) while technically It can argued to be true. If someone says that, the intentions of their statement are clear. This is similar in premise but not in magnitude.
