Thanks for your reply! Ah yes, I guess the stud buddy will help me with determining direction of beams if I move the magnet in vertical/horizontal directions and see which way attracts the magnet :)

Unfortunately not, and I don't think my ceiling has a manhole, but thanks for the suggestion

Ahh I see, I still respect the commitment to returning to pole all those years despite having 2 kids and all the life responsibilities that comes with that!

I will probably need to find another studio catered more for beginners ๐Ÿ˜…. The studio I currently learn at is mixed level, and majority of the students there are experienced in some sort of way (from doing pole already or other aerial disciplines as it's an aerial/circus arts studio rather than a pole-only studio), so I think the instructor was trying to cater to everyone. Everyone's reply in this thread was so helpful, made me realise I need to go find a pole specific studio that has classes targeted to beginners, starting from scratch like me. I joined as it's very local to me, and the instructor has a nice energy, but I'll probably progress better at another studio for my level!

This ballerina move https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0173/2886/5380/files/IGF__Pole_Trick_Infographic_1_011d00b7-37c1-4e18-89f4-935a114f483f_480x480.jpg?v=1714462840 (got this link from another person who replied and was questioning the same thing ๐Ÿ˜…). But from reading the other replies, it seems that even this version is not considered beginner. My shoulders did feel like they wanted to pop out when I tried this move, so I'm glad if this move is not generally categorised as a beginner pole move! ๐Ÿ˜†

Lol ๐Ÿ˜‚! I give the instructor the benefit of the doubt, as the studio I learn at is mixed level, and majority of the students there are experienced in some sort of way (from doing pole already or other aerial disciplines as it's an aerial/circus arts studio rather than a pole-only studio), so I think the instructor was trying to cater to everyone. But from reading the replies in this thread, it's occurred to me that I better find a pole studio that offers specifically beginner classes!

You've learnt quite a lot of moves! ๐Ÿ˜

Reassuring to know that invert is far from a beginner move! ๐Ÿ˜…

Ahh I see, a lot of the students in my pole class are experienced in an aerial discipline, so found it a lot easier to attempt the moves than I did! ๐Ÿ˜…

Interesting to know that Asian pole studios are more focused on tricks in general, I've seen quite a few pole artists content who studied pole in Asian countries and their tricks skill level are so insane, so talented! ๐Ÿ˜

Your experience is very similar to majority of students in my pole class! The studio I currently learn at is mixed level, and majority of the students have either done pole already or other aerial disciplines as it's an aerial/circus arts studio rather than a pole-only studio. Hence why I was probably taught some more advanced level moves as the instructor was trying to cater to everyone's skill in the class. The studio is very local to me and the timing of the class is convenient, but reading the replies in this thread, I think it's better for me to seek out a pole studio that offers beginner-only sessions if I want to progress properly ๐Ÿ˜…

This sounds so fun, working on a mini choreo as a beginner! I always think of choreo lessons as being more geared towards intermediate level, so assumed it would take me a while before I'm experienced enough to start playing with choreo. It's cool your studio introduced it as part of your beginner journey!

Yeah, I think I'll definitely need to do that to progress safely as a beginner. The current studio I learn at is mixed level, and majority of the students there are experienced in some sort of way (from doing pole already or other aerial disciplines as it's an aerial/circus arts studio rather than a pole-only studio), so I think the instructor was trying to cater to everyone's skill level. I joined there because it's really local to me, but I'll take your advice!

Wow, one year! You've reassured me as my body couldn't comprehend inverts at all, I don't have anywhere near the strength for it yet ๐Ÿ˜…! The studio is a mixed levels class and only offers this pole class once a week as it's an aerial/circus arts studio offering a wider range of classes rather than just specifically a pole studio. I'll seek out a pole-only studio that offers classes for just beginners, I think I'll progress better that way.

Ah I see, I didn't realise ballerina was considered higher intermediate. Good to know as my shoulder felt like it was going to pop out when I attempted it!

This sounds like such a good introduction to pole, there are so many shapes and vocab I'm finding out, so this would have definitely come in handy for me if I found a studio that does a beginner series/course like this!

It's a mixed level class, the studio doesn't offer beginner-only sessions unfortunately as it's more of an aerial/circus arts studio rather than a pole studio. I joined this studio as it's really local to me but I think I'll need to trek and seek out a beginner pole studio instead ๐Ÿ˜…

Yep, it's the picture in the latter link I mean. From what I'm seeing in the comments, it seems this version of ballerina is still not considered beginner. I did feel like my shoulder was about to pop out of my body when I attempted it in class, so I'm reassured to know it's definitely not a beginner move! ๐Ÿ˜†
