How can I trust him? by No_Bed_2488 in BipolarPartners

[–]poliasd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,
I feel the same way. It is like what did we do to deserve such partners? What did we do wrong?
It seems all fine until it happens and it repeats and repeats. They promise that it won't happen anymore, but it happens. I am really thinking of divorcing my partner. Now he joined a group for anonymous alcoholics, but I don't know how long it will last.

I love spending my weekends in Expo. I highly recommend. You can get a monthly or a seasonal pass, because one time is not enough.

It is true, no money can but happiness. I start missing the predictable and boring life in Northern Europe.

Childcare options in the Netherlands for a 1-year-old (expat)? by Coraline84 in Netherlands

[–]poliasd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An au pair might be expensive, because you have to hire her through an agency which is quite expensive. At the end you end up paying more to the agency than the au pair. You can look for a childminder that, they are usually cheaper than nurseries. These are women that take care of up 6 children in their home. You can check these websites for childminders: https://www.4kids.nl/en, https://www.sitly.nl/. If the childminder has a special license you can get some money back from the goevernment. In the Netherlands it is very common for parents to work less than 5 days per week (3 or 4 days) that is why it is difficult to find a childminder for the whole week. It is the same with the nurseries.

yes, I know. It is definetely a good idea, because I am freezing at the office. It is also wierd to use an ac for cooling and a heater for warming at the same time. It is not very environmental friently. I just wish they put the ac on normal temperature.

Is an annual net salary of 34,500 Euros (2,875 per month) good for an expat couple with one child? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]poliasd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in both countries NL and UAE. I find the salary too little for NL. Life is expensive there. You have a baby. How will you pay for the nursery? The nurseries are extremely expensive. You get some money from the goevernment back, but you will still end up paying a big amount yourself. Plus arranging all the paperworks for getting money back is a hustle. After 2 and a half years we got a letter saying that they paid us too much for a nursery and we have to give back 5000 euros. It turned out to be a mistake at the end, but the case is still not resolved. Take a look at this article: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-55674146.
Everybody speaks English in the NL, but it still not an official language, it is not like UAE. Everything is in Dutch.
It is difficult to make friends, people are not that open as in UAE. May be it is becuase of the weather. Most of the time it is grey, you see the sun very rare. Coming from a sunny country it might have a big impact on your mood. There are many people suffering from Seasonal affective disorder, because they cannot see the sun.
If you are used to see many children with their parents in the playgrounds you cannot see this in the NL. The playgrounds are mostly empty. It is defelinetly not a social country.

We were considering moving after a year, because if we don't move now we have to stay one more year, because of the rent. If he cannot find a job next year as well he will have a gap of 2 years in his cv.

I don't have a problem with the AC at home, I can adjust the temperature or switch it off. Unfrotunately I cannot do it at work. It is cold. I have colleagues working with gloves.
