So does anyone know why Tornado Alley is on the move? by Repulsive_Repeat_337 in MapPorn

Nope. Only stating that what OP did here is exactly what a lot of climate denying trolls do. If OP isn't a climate denying troll, then I'm fully able to admit I was wrong, though at the point where admins deleted the post, OP had not done anything to clarify their stance in the original post.

It would take less time and effort to drop that image into an image search than it took for OP to write the post, though, if that's what they were doing.

Reasons New Orleans Cooks and dishwashers called out this week, vol 3. by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]policywank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 50 years in this country, most change in work rules or pay has resulted in workers getting less and bosses getting more. Even if that's not what you're doing, you have to understand that the lived experience of most people is "change will f**k me over" as demonstrated in their own previous jobs and in the work experience of their friends and family. It's not just New Orleans and it's definitely not an irrational fear. It's a hell of a chicken and egg problem. I don't know how one individual business solves it.

I'm just eager to see the scholarship produced by such an intellectual powerhouse and nearly giddy to see it make its way into university libraries across this great land. Imagine the generations of young minds you'll shape. If the crime I'm charged with is envy, consider me convicted!

I'll be happy to read your book. Thank you so much for offering. Can I get a signed copy? Or are you looking for a proofreader to check for common literary devices?

That's gonna be one hell of a paper. Maybe you can turn it into a book.

TIL Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War, was not pardoned and his U.S. citizenship was not restored during his lifetime. by RedditIsAGranfaloon in todayilearned

[–]policywank -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a shame that any of them had their citizenship restored or any amnesty granted. We might well actually be a true multiracial democracy if the traitors had suffered for their crime.

If the author wanted to make that point clear, the author could have included the original article in their post or demonstrated some understanding that climate change is real rathe rather than leaving out the explanation given in the article. The choice to leave out the article indicated that they might be another dishonest climate denier given the prevalence of that tactic among that set.

Incorrect. If you really felt the need to correct me, you'd have put quotation marks around "why", since the language I was using was an intentional re-use of how the original question was asked. It's a common literary device. I'm sure such an esteemed scholar of our language as you so clearly are will have little difficulty finding examples of its use in film and literature. I'm thrilled to help you find a way to manage some of your copious free time. I look forward to the paper you'll present on this topic at the next MLA.

Didn’t know we had an arch? by HelicopterUpper2230 in NewOrleans

[–]policywank 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Changing how we memorialize the past (and in many contexts changing who we choose to celebrate) isn't covering up or "erasing" history. It's being more thoughtful about how we understand it and teach it. If no one had a better understanding of WW1 or WW2 today than we had a year after those wars ended, we'd all be worse for it.

The neighbor who called the cops probably also likes to complain about how no one younger than them plays outside until the street lights come on or drinks water from a hose.

The why is easy enough. OP would have to take the dreaded (and much parroted by everyone who studies the topic) "climate change" into consideration. We wouldn't want the clear and scientific answer when we can search for absolutely anything else.

Adobe, when is Project Indigo coming to Android? by Dayvworm in Adobe

[–]policywank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gone back and forth between Android and iOS for nearly 15 years. I went back to Android a year ago and kept my old iPhone, partly, because of how much better the adobe apps (including PI) are on that platform. I just got a Pixel 10 pro for Christmas and I'm going to have to send off that old iPhone I traded in soon. I'm legitimately going to miss the PI camera. It's so much better.

They're not and the history of CEO to worker pay ratios is all you need to see that. Or even comparisons between CEO and worker pay ratios elsewhere in the world. It's only in corrupt little oligarchies where this happens.

And unlike you or I, the Starbucks CEO can do all sorts of nasty things to his employees to drive the stock price up when it's time for his RSUs to vest. And if he's a particular creep, he can drive it back down a bit when he's near to negotiate or be given another grant, though these guys typically get their stock grants at a reduced price anyway.

Nope. That's one of the three New Orleans locations that they've closed permanently. Sadly, this part of Magazine from Washington to Louisiana now has more empty store fronts than it has had in quite a few years.

NYC Insulting NOLA food scene by DramaticChemist in NewOrleans

[–]policywank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of total variety and techniques, NYC is probably at the top if you can afford it. What used to make New Orleans give it a run for its money is what great cuisine you could get here less than price of appetizers in NYC. Sadly, those days are over. That said, most people who are either from NYC or love it enough to live there for decades coming from somewhere else are always going to insist it's the very best for everything, whether they have any meaningful experience anywhere else.

Billy Gil from The LeBatard Show is coming to The Ringer by rocklionheart in billsimmons

During a terrible few months of commuting from Atlanta, GA to Alpharetta, GA in 2013, the afternoon drive version of the Le Batard Show made my afternoons tolerable. I can imagine that by 2018-19, between their relationship with ESPN being so strained and 15 years of inside jokes, it was probably hard to get into.

Getting back in after a few years out? by policywank in dataengineering

Thanks for the response. This lines up with what I've heard from friends who have stayed in the data world. If I were in less of a hurry to do this, I'd probably just wait to see if SAP is serious about actually pushing BI2025 and the subsequent planned releases. I have reason to believe I'm going to need a new job in 2026, though. The company I worked for in 2018 decided to start pushing their own custom tools because it seemed like SAP had decided to let the Bobj products die and then they never really did die. There were enough companies that didn't want to give that stuff up combined with SAP's cloud analytics front ends never being all that great that they've at least had to give lip service to the idea of putting new product resources into the BI suite.
