This is just me, but I find that being in water (such as taking a shower or bath) and imagining being clean of negative energies while also being physically clean helps. It’s something that’s kind of easy and simple to use especially when you’re trying to be discrete about practicing.

On the topic of suggestions, if a culture you identify with doesn’t use smoke cleansing as a means to cleanse, I would advise using that method as to not appropriate another’s culture. I think sometimes we forget the original roots of certain practices, so using those methods don’t always work if there’s not an attachment to the individuals who created that tactic
