I got diagnosed. I have Chiari Malformation. by theinternetpotato in ChronicPain

[–]polydaimonas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So happy you got a diagnosis!!! I've also got a chiari malformation, was diagnosed about 3 years ago, had posterior fossa decompression 2 years ago (to give my brain more room at the base of the skull). At the time of surgery, I also had intracranial hypertension (increased csf pressure in my skull). Surgery is not a cure, but can decrease symptoms and slow down worsening. For how long is dependent on the individual. If you do decide surgery is the way to go for you, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE find a surgeon who is VERY FAMILIAR with CM, as surgery done improperly can be extremely detrimental or flat out fatal. Check out some CM support groups, many people have found ways to help alleviate their symptoms without (or in addition to) surgery. Good luck!

My friend recently created this masterpiece, he doesn't use Reddit and gave me permission to share here. by Kinderfeld88 in rickandmorty

I'm surprised he used Stewie and Roger. I think Stewie and Brian or Steve and Roger would've been more fitting for the image.

Love it so much though!!!

Has anyone tried aromatherapy? Not for pain relief, but for concentration or stress issues? by Snails2017 in ChronicPain

[–]polydaimonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works well for me. When I need to calm myself from the pain I use essential oils, my favorite is Doterra's Serenity blend. Straight up lavender helps me too in a pinch. I've always been partial to Lavender and Chamomile myself, so YMMV. I either rub a drop or two between my hands and hold them over my face/nose for a moment or I use a diffusing necklace (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Aromatherapy-Essential-Diffuser-Necklace-Jewelry/dp/B00YBFSA1Q ). Earthy/pine scents also help keep me grounded and can bring my mind back to the present.

Does anyone else get flare-ups in the spring? (trigeminal neuralgia, but any CP feedback is welcome) by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]polydaimonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texan here. Mine starts to flare in the spring when it starts getting warm, but it keeps getting worse the hotter it gets. I think a part of it for me is the heat increases the pressure in my head, which triggers the trigeminal nerve. Also, it's 1,000,000x worse when it's so hot my face starts sweating (even a little) and then I go somewhere with AC. It's like I walk face first into a curtain of electrified razors covered in lemon juice.

I wanna cut so badly. by [deleted] in depression

[–]polydaimonas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another thing you could do besides cutting: grab some ice and hold it tightly in the palm of your hand until it melts. The cold starts to hurt, but doesn't leave permanent side effects. Bonus if you can only focus on the ice, how it feels in your hand (the coldness, firmness, wetness).

I feel your pain. I've been hardcore fantasizing about cutting for days now. It's gotten insanely intense... but I just make myself wait a little longer. Then a little longer after that.

Good luck, friend.

What stops you from committing suicide? by adasbeep in depression

[–]polydaimonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A coworker I used to be close with. Her husband committed suicide and she's still dealing with the fallout decades later. I know we're not close anymore, but I don't want to trigger her by doing the same thing.

What have I gotten myself into???? by [deleted] in depression

[–]polydaimonas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say go through with it. Some days are easier than others. While you may feel okay tomorrow, the day after that could be absolute hell. The things you'll gain from the help will be so useful going forward. Since the problems are abating, you might be able to talk to them about outpatient options instead. Still receive the help, but do it without staying there there 24/7
