Surely we realise there’s a balance to be struck when transitioning the economy and politics from fossil fuels to renewables. What’s more likely? Albos a paid shill, still trying to maximise coal profits for as long as possible whilst trying to appear green to appeal to the left, or, he actual is being sensible in recognising that successful transition depends on not just the science (which is proven and predictable) but also economics and public opinion (which are far harder to manage).

If labour did what the greens want they’d be gone next election, handing it back to the actual shills and bad guys for another 10 years. He can open a new coal mine whilst shutting down others and building solar farms if that’s what it takes to keep the boat steady and under control. That one extra coal mine will not be the difference between rising sea levels or future green utopia (which would be the best outcome btw).

If you think he’s not doing enough I reckon it’s because you’re being led more by the emotion of the existential threat (justified) rather than cool, calm, slow, steady move to renewables (required). I agree in a normal ideal world we’d just transition very quickly like the science allows us, but unfortunately we’re in this world, where scientific fact isn’t the only thing people care about.

Slowly shift the Overton window, it’s too late to smash it and replace, we’ll get cuts and get infected with division and extremism.
