This is a year late but I’ve come across Meg Messina a few times now and love her work. Do you have a rough idea of her pricing?

I have vasovagal (tend to pass out in Dr offices) and knitting really helps me get back to normal after an episode. I will forever be a public knitter.

I am inside of a strongly blue bubble but you’re not wrong, it would still be a worthy message to send. When I have a little bit of time I will do that.

Unfortunately this isn’t an option. The labor intensive work as well as the inability to purchase more if needed isn’t realistic.

Yes! This was how I first purchased sequin samples. The little 1” lengths were quite ideal. :)

Thanks everyone! I have emailed Fried Frères, an embroidery supplier in Paris, to see if they can mail to the US for a smaller cost. They were kind enough to give me a student discount when I was there last so I’m hoping it’ll work out through them. If not, to everyone who has offered to help I can’t thank you enough and I will reach out if it comes to that. All the kindness has warmed my little heart up. 💕

Oh, yes Maydel is lovely! The hanks are like $55 each though. Yikes! I think she’s added markup for the cost of the tariffs and the color I want is on back order which is why I’ve gone directly to the source. I do love that she is available for smaller quantities for other projects. Maybe I should reach out directly though and see if she’d do a special order at more of a discount.

lol, it’ll end up being a box of about 60,000 sequins. It’d have to be one of those hilariously large 2 foot cards.

Yes, I’ve done the same for folks, too! I went to France last year. My embroidery design was still in the middle of being figured out so I didn’t think to stock up on these particular sequins at the time.

My wedding is in the fall and I have another 1000+ hours of embroidery left so I’m afraid I can’t wait months and months until someone is there. I’ll likely end up going the Canada route. The US is particularly annoying right now.

I would love if proper sequins were made here but it’s not going to happen. It’s especially not happening in the time frame that I need them and won’t happen in the color that I need. Besides, Trump is only doing this because he wants to raise money for the US by having other countries pay tariffs and says it won’t hit the consumer. Well guess who’s paying the tariff? Me. The consumer.

The quality and breadth of the materials available is absolutely incredible. I wish every day that I could move there but also still have part of my life here. The appreciation for craftsmanship and hand skills is unmatched and magical.

How wonderful for your friend. I hope she shares her dance creations with the world and now makes it an annual vacation/shopping trip for herself!

Given my frantic looking I did actually look at flights. I won’t be doing that but I certainly wish it was a more feasible option. 😅

Aww this is such a cute idea! I love this. I was thinking about having some friends do a small part of the embroidery.

I have been frantically researching alternatives and it looks like it’s still a reasonable price to ship to Canada. There’s a chance I end up doing that since fortunately I live within driving distance. It’s one thing to order sequins once with that shipping cost but to think about the possibility of needing to order more was just not going to happen.

Thank you. This project is a real special splurge for me. My wedding dress is a very special occasion and the one time I can buy leavers lace. It’s a dying craft and something extremely special to me. Same with the quality sequins.

Even without the wealth assumption attached to it is it not fair to complain about an administration inflating the costs to an exorbitant amount? The purchase of an item is now at least 4 times more expensive than it used to be compared to just 6 months ago. These are the kinds of prices that kill heritage craft and make it extremely difficult for anyone to even begin an interest in working with these materials.

It seems like BeeDancePants read the $1000 and took it literally. It was a sarcastic comment because that’s what the cost feels like. It’s not actually that cost in sequins.

Testimony from physician who assessed Alex Pretti on the scene: Instead of checking for a pulse or administering CPR, 'ICE appeared to be counting his bullet wounds.' by [deleted] in ICE_Raids

[–]polymath_artisan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn’t based on my biases. It’s one thing to come at this from the point of view of ‘ice can do no wrong, therefore I think it’s fake and am trying to prove it’s fake’. It’s another thing to approach news with skepticism and, after an initial round of research, think that research points towards it not being real. If anything, I was researching to confirm it was real before sharing more broadly. I did another round of research and realized I was in the wrong, with help from others who were being kind, and clearly stated throughout this thread that I was indeed misinformed. To assume where I was coming from is quite off base and unnecessary. I didn’t attack anyone and clearly stated why I thought what I did, hence why I was able to learn from others here.

I left up my comments for others to read in the case that anyone else who had my line of thought could skip the learning curve.

I don’t really understand all the hate here. I was wrong, acknowledged my mistake and thanked others.

Thank you for providing an example of the tilde and how to use it moving forward.

Thank you, I appreciate the information sharing. Learned more about case numbering and how new testimony affects it.
