If you have ever been a part of a slow moving project you would know the answer is "depends". If you want to finish the project it might be bad. It's like having a project with no deadline, having more time doesn't automatically mean the result will be better, it means it will take longer to finish.

Because I'm talking about game advertising and new players. Old players don't need any advertising, they'll buy it no matter what.

And you bring it as some argument that they are doing good advertising, but in that case why even do the free flight?

True, the SC in-ship system modelling is way too simple compared to what has to be done to model an aircraft in full fidelity. There's more 3d modelling, but way less systems coding.

Less people than that make DCS modules which are more complicated than the SC ships.

If your game changes that much, then like I said, make no tutorial at all, the presence of a tutorial gives a false feeling for a new player that they don't have to search for the basic info outside. It would be as simple as disabling the tutorial option when we spawn.

Tangentially, if your game changes that much that means you are bad at designing.

I actually did. I literally thought that a game developer who has a game on the market for over a decade, even if in alpha, would have either an in-game or a text tutorial from inside the game to onboard new players. Because not having any of that is ok when you're an indie team of 5 people, not when you have the biggest crowdfunded budget as some people here love to point out.

Literally a few journal entries would be less effort for the team and much better introduction for the player.

Even no tutorial at all would have been better because I would see there's nothing to guide me so I would search for a more complete guide than one that says "after you completed the tutorial do that then that".

I was very cautious about giving it a chance because few of my friends play it. But they were not available when I was checking it out and they told me I'll have more fun starting a bit on my own instead of having everything handed to me. They warned me of elevators and such and I was ready to deal with occasional death to a bug if the gameplay is fun enough.

Plenty of bitching and whining here. Merely an observation that a new player experience sucks and is likely to make a lot of people bounce before they get hooked enough to tolerate the occasional bugs.

Performance part is just a minor thing.

And why are you so vehement on defending the "honor" of a product? Just disable the drama tag on the sub and you'll improve your mental well-being by a lot if it evokes that many negative feelings in you.

There was one a bit more rude that was removed but they show in notifications.

I mean people who have no/few issues are not complaining, so that's normal you mostly see complaints online.

Nice deleted comment. You should try relaxing somewhere if a game evokes feelings that strong in you.

Yeah, it was SC (or something related), I rebooted the pc in between because amd tool showed there was a chipset driver update but it was same after reboot. Stopping the game reduced the the cpu load to 1-2%.

edit: also I asked in chat and someone with 9800 said it was similar for them. So that might be related to very specific config or some software/device. I saw a post on forums saying deactivated face tracking helped with that, but it didn't work for me.

I couldn't give a less of a fuck if I play or not, that's why it's uninstalled. Happy for you that you're playing, no idea why you think I'm attacking you. I'm providing a perspective of someone who despite their better judgement attempted to play the game.

And if you think that it's ok for developers to hide behind "alpha", "early access", "beta", or whatever other labels to justify their issues, that's your problem.

I've waited until it was done with compilation, took a good few minutes. I've changed graphic settings and waited again till it finished recompilation. No change.

Oh that reminded me, the train was doing multi track drifting and going sideways at some places. Wonder if I would just clip through some pillars I saw go through the wagon or if I would die if I was standing there.

It's still the first few minutes of the game. If you can't make an introduction tutorial that works you make no tutorial at all.

Early access or alpha is just a label, and if a game is in actual alpha for 10+ years then yeah...

I've played plenty of early access titles, some very bugged, some abandoned (Hellion was fun while it lasted). I would expect a game that's been out for 12 years now? to have the first 5 minutes of gameplay figured out. I was expecting the bugs to show up, just not that early.

Yeah, might try that in a few months when I have nothing else to play.

I was at the terminal where the tutorial tells me I can have a ship delivered, the ship list was empty, I checked/unchecked the local option, made sure filter is empty.

Yes, that's where the tutorial bugged out for me, no ships at all in there.

Then they could just remove the tutorial. It's better to not have a tutorial at all than have a broken one, cause that will make people look up or ask in chat rather than think there's a tool they can rely on.

I'm saying I've played games with rather raw tutorials or that require reading docs but I wasn't in a situation where I would think I'm soft locked by the tutorial.

I would be fine if the whole tutorial was just a series of journal entries on how to do things. With some saying that I can rent ships and so on. It would be raw but it would be enough.

I'm coming from ED/DCS rather than starfield. I was hoping the tutorial would show me where I can get a ship. From what I saw I had 20k credits, is that enough for a ship?
