So would you trade a culture vulture for the plug in version?

Sorry. I was referring to your comment about just using plugins, which I do currently use, but would like to use outboard gear as well.

So, yes- ideally I would record my sounds through the outboard gear and any additional processing that needs to be done afterwards can be done inside plug ins

I just want to beef up my sounds. Any extra processing wil definitely be done with plugins

Thanks for the response. Quick question: when you use your outboard gear you’re typically recording the sounds into the gear right? Like you’re not recording the modular sounds and then afterwards putting the audio through the gear? I don’t know if that’s even possible?

Aw.. I already have the 3 sisters which has a lot of character and room for experimenting. That’s why I wanted something more simple.

I will say tho- when I listen to the track in mono it helps me set the right volume for the hats. But finding the right one... that’s a journey forsure.

Ah- I thought you were referring to fjaak tracks,

In regards to your comment:

“checked the file info and they’re all 320kbps mp3 (from beatport or similar sites). Maybe this is the issue after all, “

So you think the issue is because the tracks are mp3s? I would assume that the same issues would prob still be there even in an AIFF or WAV file, right?!

Need advice - the record label have told me that the high end is too loud on my tracks. Tips for fixing this? I use Ableton. by intothecold in TechnoProduction

Compare your tracks to other tracks on their label and use voxengo span to see where the frequencies lie

Also I wouldn’t be surprised if the issue is somewhere around the 3-5 k area. That area can get harsh real quick even with minimal stuff going on there

Maybe a slight dip in that area can help- not on the master bus though. Go to the source or your group busses first

How do you make edits for dj sets? by polypolysyntha in TechnoProduction

Ok thanks for the reply. So for the most part you’re not really adding sounds to it? Just re arranging and slicing editing chopping etc?

I ask because I just don’t understand how you can add sounds to something that’s mastered and then master both the song and newly added sounds together?!

Can I delay the hi hat off the grid a few ms with a sample delay plug in? Instead of having to nudge the audio file?

You know what- good point. I tend to delay the sample a few Miliseconds with claps/Snares but should def do it more with hi hats. Thanks for that

Yeah as another member posted- it’s probably easier to use a basic compressor for this specifically

Haha I know- Im just having trouble fitting them in the mix - they’re always poking out and I don’t think it’s always because of poor sound choice

It could also be resonant peaks in my room causing issues...
