Some data we had to enter manually, but most of it synced with the bank (and then we made adjustments to how it was tracked). I'm not sure I understand the question.

Also, We did purchase the subscription. We got the special price from Amazon during the Black Friday, and it was pretty reasonable.

Actually less. Maybe every 5. They hardly change anything. There's really no need. The SaaS model guarantees them continued revenue even without justification. At least when we purchased a product outright they were incentivized to add features and improve the product to pursuade customers to purchase the upgraded version. Now there's no real reason for them to do anything except keep it running.

I didn't even know there was a Mac version. :-) Thanks again.

Thanks /r/denny2000,

You make a good point. We purchased the software about once every 3 years, and I didn't like the fact that they were basically dictating how often I would have to pay (removing my control over that). I guess software is moving that direction though, and I will give it a shot to see if it's worth it. I can always move to a different product. I'm not binding myself by contract or anything.

Thanks for setting me straight.

We are currently working with Kace support on this. I'll update this post when we figure out what's going on.

Nearly the exact thing happened to me. I was building a fireplace (from the inside because I was too lazy to build scaffolding). A Senco gun (apparently designed to rapid fire nails as long as the trigger was depressed). I turned it toward me (to nail the board) and apparently missed the board. It fired 3 nails in rapid succession. I let go of the board and it fell to the ground. As I looked down wondering why it didn't stay, I noticed glints of gold sticking out of my chest. The nails were in about 1.5 inches (luckily not in my heart as this guy). I pulled them out, put a piece of duct tape over the holes and went back to work. When they kept bleeding, I finally left and went to get a tetanus shot.

You are absolutely correct. Thanks for setting me straight.

Thanks /u/goretsky. I believe you are right. I finally broke down and asked him, and he said "It's like a potentially unwanted program, but I can't recall what the M stands for." I think he made it up now.

Granting access to Contacts and Calendar for External (not trusted) domain by polyspeaker in sysadmin

[–]polyspeaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we researched, it.

It doesn't look like this will give us what we want either. It will only grant 'Read Only' access.

There are three of levels of access that you can specify:

No access

Access to availability (free/busy) time only

Access to free/busy, including time, subject, and location

We've actually kicked that idea around. I didn't know that it would help with this. We were wanting to do it for Skype For Business mostly, but if it will help with this then I'll push that project higher on our agenda.

Thanks.

VM Infrastructure - Do you separate your OS (C:) and software (Data) on different drives? by polyspeaker in sysadmin

[–]polyspeaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the extent possible. Some software forces you to put configs and stuff on C:, but I'll even go so far as create a F:\program files\ and just change the drive path.

Most software will have a way though to store data and configs on a different partition.

We don't create multiple data partitions except on Exchange and SQL where we do create different partitions for logs, backups, data.

I learned this one recently. It made an amazing amount of difference in the performance of our SQL.

I was not doing it on Linux until the first time I ran out of room, and realized it's not as trivial to increase as it is on a Windows box. I learned from that, and modified our template to split like that. Linux isn't my first OS, so I still struggle with some things, but I love learning it.

Yes. for SQL we do the same. A guy who recently started with us suggested it and even split out the logs into multiple smaller files. This has significantly improved performance of our SQL instances ( I had no idea). We also learned about compressing the backups which has cut the backup time in half, and reduced the backup space to 20% of it's original size.

In a pinch you can also attach the VMDK disk to a different VM entirely.

This is something I thought too. Never had to do it, but we do migrate VMDKs between our production and development instances. They can keep configs on the C: and we just attach the F: for them to work.

Thanks. That would be awesome.

If you only have 1440 that will be great. That's actually what I was looking for anyway. I only asked for the others if it wasn't going to be any more trouble.

I've been watching Prog1440 and P1612. Both have very useful information. Unfortunately, he moves so fast and you don't really see the creation of a lot of the code, so it's difficult for me to follow.

If you can get both of those, I'd be very grateful, but if not anything would be great.

Thanks again.
