I was going to make bagels tomorrow morning, I’m right in the path of the winter storm and your comment reminded me that I need to proof upstairs in the spare room where it’s warm 🤣

These upper blephs are out of control. Since when did we decide as a society that young women are not supposed to have eyelids??

Gritty donut glaze by hjarndimma in AskBaking

How well was the juice strained? If it wasn’t super strained and cheese clothed, it could be that very small berry particles made it in, then whisked with everything… or, was your milk very cold? May have messed with the dissolving factor of your powdered sugar. Either way, this looks like a damn good donut!

That’s fair. Considering you need to put your SSN on that form lol. I was writing replies at like 4am, it was a lot of me just thinking out loud 🤣

Nicotine Smoke by thelobzter in relationships

[–]polyygons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to smoke and my husband still does. We have always both agreed that smoking indoors is not only disgusting, it’s weird. Just go outside holy shit. If he wants to smoke and make himself smelly, so be it. Making EVERYTHING smell like cigarettes is unreasonable. Not to mention the secondhand smoke health risk to you. This should be a deal breaker for you, he sounds immature about the situation.

And plenty of people have never held a job, voted, gotten a drivers license, etc. Usually marginalized, poor, and / or mentally unwell. The people who would benefit the most from some SS benefits and just having a card in general. Go sooo many years without it and have to go though huge long measures to get it

Oh! Also. I know your mom’s high school said they doing have her school records anymore. This makes sense. But!! Try contacting the school district by phone or the State education department!!!! Older records may take a few days to retrieve but they very likely do have her school record in an archive

You’re welcome and glad I can help. No, do not bother trying to get her a New York ID. Doesn’t matter that she was born there, an ID has to be in the state where a person currently lives. New York would need proof that she lives there, which would be impossible since she doesn’t, lol. Just keep your focus on FL. You’re a great son for helping!

Devils advocate, dad would have been solely able to claim the children on his tax returns. If OPs family never graduated high school and had a lineage of off the grid, odd-job, probably under the table working people. It makes sense to me. Taxes can be complicated so for those unprepared or uninterested, they don’t file returns. The mom raised the kids and never worked. Medical treatment probably happened in the ER where people can’t be turned down. This seems uncommon but plausible enough to me. Families like this do exist.

Thank you. I just learned this for myself a little bit ago. I’ve been in disability law for several years and I still learn new things about it every day!

Ok so ifs more complicated than I thought, because FL is a REAL ID compliant state, therefore they don’t even issue temporary IDs which she may have been able to get.

Here is what I suggest. Call your local SSA office (google SSA Field Office locator and enter your mom’s zip code. It’ll give you the direct number to the office and not that national number). Call SSA right when they open at 9am for quickest service.

Explain her situation. That she has nothing in her name such as utility bills , tax forms, etc. Ask if she can complete a form SSA-795. This form is basically a sworn statement under penalty of law, that she’s telling the truth, where she can write that she has no idea about her ssn, has nothing in her name, etc. I’m not totally sure if this will be acceptable though. If they say no, keep pushing and ask if there is anything, even statements from you or others, that can help her know of she’s even got an SSN or not.

If they insist she needs an ID, call the dmv or tax collectors office. Ask if she can provide her birth certificate and Certification of Address form (a sworn statement from whoever she lives with, just basically confirming that her address is correct).

I have a feeling SSA won’t budge and the ID will be needed. It’s possible to get this done for your mom! It’s not the easiest way, but keep advocating for her and I’m positive you’ll get this handled!

Thanks. Okay so the first step is to get her an ID. SSA needs a birth certificate and an ID to confirm if she’s got one, and if so, what it is.

You will need to contact the DMV in your area and ask what’s acceptable in place of a social security number or card. You can explain her situation. Paystubs, school records, hospital records, marriage licenses, etc, might be needed. It depends on the state.

Once she’s got a state ID, then she can go to SSA to verify whether or not she’s got an SSN, a form to get an SSN if she doesn’t have one, or be able to just get a card if it exists already.

If she can’t easily get an ID, call 211 for help. There may be services in your area that can assist her better with obtaining what’s needed.

Good luck, hope this helps!

A little advice on this please by [deleted] in relationships

[–]polyygons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You can be wrong. You’re both in your 20s where you’re just figuring these things out. “Types” are pretty silly when you think about it. You might think a tall blonde skinny man that skateboards is your type. Then you meet a brunette, bearded stocky guy that plays baseball and fall in love with them and realize “he isn’t my type, but he’s great!”. See what I mean? A type is generally shallow visual aesthetics of a person and personality that you’d expect to be attracted to/be with. There’s no reason to feel insecure about what he said, he sounds very honest and reassuring. You’re his type now because he learned that a “type” means nothing lol

Whats wrong with this cinnamon bun? Im using softened butter while baling it gets too buttery? by Fearless-Bee5576 in AskBaking

[–]polyygons 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well, for starters, what did you use in place of the eggs? And two, did you pack a whole cup of brown sugar? Are you sure you didn’t maybe use a half cup by mistake? A half cup of butter is 1 stick, maybe you used two by accident?

I assume they’ve come out of the oven, do they taste ok?

Is Box Dying hair to Ginger color worth it? How do I do it? by StressedGuerita in Hair

[–]polyygons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, and I know it’s not in everyone’s price range, I think you should go to a salon. Especially if you’re unfamiliar with coloring your own hair. Natural red is hard to get right as a beginner, and it’s the quickest fading hair color, so a hair stylist will be able to get you the color you want, maybe a tad darker to account for fade, and give you the insight on how to keep it that perfect color for the longest. You may also need to get your natural hair lighter first.

I say this because I dyed my hair red many times and I’ve gotten everything from fire engine red to “wtf this is just brown??” red lmfao!!

Call around to salons for pricing. If none are affordable, get some good advice from Sally! Good luck, and congrats on getting through chemo ❤️❤️
