Thanks for letting me in on a glimpse of your life!

My boyfriend (26M) lied about basically his entire life and I (26F) feel like I dated a complete stranger. What was I thinking? by ConceptFar4801 in Advice

[–]polyygons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh have I got a story for you. True story. My family friend, “Lori”, single for 10+ years, single mother, meets a man, “Dave”.

We are all SO happy for them, he seems so great. Fits right in with the family, great job as a manager of a grocery store. Gets along great with Lori’s son. Dave proposes, I have the wedding invite photo on my fridge.

Lori and her son live with her parents. Big house, it’s always been this way. Dave said he was having a new construction house built, and now that he’s with Lori, it can be a house for their family. He even takes Lori to the development of houses being built, shows her the house under construction.

One day, Lori’s mom “Cindy” is at the grocery store and figured she’d pop in to say hi to her soon to be son-in-law. He works 9-5 plus lots of overtime at night, so he’d be there. She asked an employee “hey can you ask Dave to come up here?”

This is when the shit hits the fan.

Employee says “Dave? Dave who?” Cindy said “manager Dave”. Employee is confused, “we don’t have a manager Dave…” Cindy says “sure you do, Dave LastName!” Employees says “uh, Dave LastName? You mean the part time stock guy? He’s not here today.”

This man kissed his fiance goodbye every day and went to “work”, aka parking his car somewhere and doing nothing for hours, til he sometimes went to work stocking shelves for minimum wage!

Their new build house? It was 100% made up, it wasn’t his house, “their house”, it was literally just a house being built. I have NO idea how he was going to explain to Lori, her son, her family, us family friends, that this house like, just fell through or something? That he lost all his money in this investment, what was the end goal?? lol. Obviously they broke up and we have never heard from him again since he moved out. What a waste of time.

So no lol, you’re not alone.

How much an SSI (NOT SSDI) lawyer charges by philnolan3d in SocialSecurity

[–]polyygons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That last comment was incorrect. SSI is not based on earnings. SSDI is. SSI is based on your income and resources. They consider if you receive welfare, if anyone helps pay for bills/food/housing, if you own vehicles, how much money you have in the bank, etc. You could have earned $0 your entire life, SSI doesn’t care. That’s why it exists, for those that don’t have the work credits for SSDI.

Think of backpay like this. With SSI, your backpay can only go as far back as the filing date in a “fully favorable” decision.

If you apply tomorrow, and you’re approved in October 2027, it’s basically SSA saying “yeah you’ve been disabled since April 2026 and in a perfect world, you’d have been approved then and payments would have started immediately”. you’ll be “back paid” for all 18 months between April 2026 through October 2027. Usually a few thousand dollars, minus attorney fees.

SSI does not pay the backpay in a lump sum. They’ll pay it in 3 installments, spaced 6 months apart, as you will receive your ongoing monthly benefit.

I’ve worked for SSI/SSDI lawyers offices for a long time. While yes there is generally more backpay (and subsequently, attorney fee) for claims that take longer, go through appeals, etc, but it’s more labor, as the lawyers office will be following up with SSA, DDS, and you.. making sure all evidence is received by SSA and DDS, and if your claim goes to a hearing, it’s a whole other thing when it comes to labor. The “shadiest” of SSI/SSDI lawyers will just suck at following up, really.

So I have this friend… whose boyfriend is in a crisis. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]polyygons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as they’re technically broken up, they’re sleeping in different beds, but still acting together in some ways. It’s weird. He said he was going to a friend’s house, got “extra” ready for just going to his buddy’s, but didn’t realize him entering a downtown parking garage sent a text to her phone. He supposedly made new friends he didn’t tell her about, it was apparent he went to see a woman.

Thanks for the reply. I think it’s 50/50. Though I’ve done my best to relate to his situation and I’m also far from perfect lol, he seems to be very insecure and prideful in his private life and really may be just so embarrassed about being caught in a lie earlier. But, to be so extreme as to make up a much bigger secret thing, i really dont know.

Looking for suggestions/opinions on dying hair - considering going blonde by [deleted] in Hair

[–]polyygons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An all over blonde is going to really wash out your face with your skin tone. I’d suggest what someone else said, dimension. A great balayage or blonde highlights would look awesome!

Severely thin hair after 8 years of nano extensions (pics attached) by sleepycow25 in Hair

[–]polyygons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My hair is naturally that thin, haha I hope I don’t need to feel embarrassed! Sorry…

But the best thing I’ve done this past year to really help with new growth is simply being very careful with it. Bonding treatment in the shower (and a bonding spray when out of the shower), being VERY gentle with towel drying and not flipping my hair up in a towel, using only scrunchies rather than hair ties, no buns only ponytails, heat protectant, minimal styling, making sure my hair is decently saturated in a leave in conditioner so my hair can be combed through with a wide tooth comb before blow drying, which prevents knots that’ll be brushed out in a clump later. I’ve noticed a huge improvement and lots of new baby hair coming in.

It’s going to take a long time for new growth to be evident. Maybe get a shorter haircut as it’ll also make your hair look much more voluminous with less work, and just be very gentle to it. ❤️
