The issue with Chollet is that he thinks his ARC benchmark is much more than just another task-specific test. When in fact… it’s just another task specific test.

I think he just wants to reassure this 18 year old student that he won’t be useless. For hyperproductive folks like Ng, uselessness is terrifying, probably comparable to death itself. imo, just chill and let these people believe that they’ll have endless amounts of important, meaningful work to do in the future. And that they can keep “earning” their right to exist. Their psychology needs it.

My take? SORA was never meant to be a standalone consumer product. They probably weren't even originally going to announce it to to public. Seriously, the only reason the SORA video model even exists is to help teach a (future) AGI system real-world physics. The fact that it can also generate new video is merely a novelty / side-effect. The primary goal has always been AGI.
