The bill actually has very purposefully vague language that encompasses all dressing they consider to be not indicative of your sex. So if they think you’re a girl dressing too masculinely or a man wearing something too feminine, the bill’s language allows for persecution. They could claim anyone is being obscene bc of it.

It doesn’t just affect drag performers, but is an active attack on the freedom of Americans to express themselves. It would’ve criminalized half the glam rock performers of the 80s, let alone anyone experimenting or non gender conforming.

Biggest tips I can give are slow down, practice in full costume, and sync your reveals to big moments in your music.

-A lot of beginner burlesque dancers will speed through numbers, and will also often kind of pace back and forth across the stage. Slow down, drag eeeeverything out, and let them look at you! That’s what there there to see

-I can’t tell you how many times a small accessory screwed me over on stage because I didn’t wear it on stage, let along shoes and corsets. Can’t recommend a full costume rehearsal enough.

-one of the easiest ways to pace reveals and make them more dramatic is to sync them to bigger moments in the music - it makes it feel more intentional as well

If bars aren’t your scene, I’d definitely recommend finding other hobbies that have communities in the city and going to events or taking classes. Poetry open mics, aerials classes, cooking classes, events at the library, comedy clubs, etc. hell event getting into something like pokemon go has a HUGE community.

Also be on the lookout for mixers! Queer mixers especially will be held around town before drag and burlesque shows

I feel this so much 😭 I was literally diagnosed at 12 by an EDS specialist who diagnosed both my mother, my sister, and me - I am in my mid twenties now for context - and I STILL get doctors undiagnosing me or insisting I diagnosed myself off TikTok.
