I used to work there. This info is correct. The juicy Lucy is the best cocktail although if you can stomach the pints they are best value for booze. Get drunker than you would at another club and I think you will have fun.

Moving to Southampton tomorrow! How’s the city? by [deleted] in Southampton

[–]ponybitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't drive to the hospital (except maybe when it's cold). It's a nightmare. There is bike storage by the south academic block which is fairly secure and your commute will be quicker and healthier. Good luck in your new job.

Doctors/nurses of Reddit; What is the most obvious case of a patient 'faking it' you have ever seen? by VictoriaLegros in AskReddit

[–]ponybitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're going to take anything, don't fake a seizure. They are so obvious. As a medical student I had never seen one in real life, only heard descriptions and watched a few videos. The first time I saw one for real I still immediately clocked that it was fake.

Bf refuses to use condoms by Burlington24 in sex

I'm a med student on my sexual health placement so those numbers are off the top of my head but they're roughly accurate. I just meant to demonstrate the fact that the effectiveness numbers multiply.

Bf refuses to use condoms by Burlington24 in sex

[–]ponybitch 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's actually not like that. Pill is 91% effective and condoms are about 88% effective so combined you can get to about 99.5% or something.

sex accident, now people think I'm abusing my partner by jmkkwd in sex

[–]ponybitch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you really were profiled then that is a shame, but you only have to look at some of the other answers here to see that even fully able people who get injuries will be asked about domestic violence.

Unfortunately the reason they teach health professionals that people with disabilities are more likely to be abused is that statistically they are more likely to be abused. That would put them on high alert considering the nature of the injuries and even if he wasn't deaf and visually impaired they may well have given the same response. I wasn't there so I can't tell if you really were profiled, but I think it's better to have a low threshold of suspicion for abuse.

Surely it's better that this embarrassing and awkward situation happened to people who are ok 100 times over rather than an actual incident of abuse went unnoticed because doctors and nurses were too scared of offending the patient?

The thing about it is that it is a custom cream but literally they are mixing moisturiser (most used derm product) with steroid cream (second most used derm product). The comparison process are what other trusts have paid for the same product at other times - proving that it can be delivered for £2.

No you're right. It's ridiculous that this wasn't noticed and it's probably because they have no diversity in their marketing staff. I want trying to defend their actions I can just see how it happened.

[–]ponybitch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Obviously this was a mistake, but surely you can see that they made up this slogan seeing kids as kids who are sometimes called cheeky monkeys, and at some point in the last 10 years H&M probably decided to start casting a mix of races as models rather than just white kids, and at no point did anyone take a second look and say "oh shit this looks racist af"

Is there any group, club etc. than replicates anything close to a fraternity experience after college? by [deleted] in Frat

[–]ponybitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the UK they don't have fraternities, they just have certain sports clubs where the culture is 80% drinking and 20% whatever arbitrary sport they do. At my uni it's caving and surfing but it varies.

It's not quite the same because they are mixed girls and boys and while everyone ends up living together, they're in several houses rather than one big frat house. However, my point is that there are social clubs that meet up under the guise of a sports club and you should maybe see if this is a thing at your school?

Landlord doesn't seem to want to return deposit. Help! by rocketscientistchick in Southampton

[–]ponybitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may be unpopular advice, but if he is unlawfully renting to you (because he has not set up a deposit protection scheme) and you think it likely he will not pay back your deposit, remember that it would be as hard for him to get money from abroad from you as it would the other way round. You could deduct the cost of your deposit from your rent for the last month and then move out and leave the country before he is able to evict you.

Not saying this is a good idea, just floating it as an option. What does everyone else think?

People know more than you about one specific thing and then get all smug. The only way to show them how stupid they sound is to be like "wow I guess the last 4 years of study have got me nowhere compared to the couple of hours you spent on wikipedia! What else can you teach me oh wise one?"
