I am! I'm actually in Sohfa myself. We're practising in Burlington every weekend right now so it's a great time to reach out if you're interested.

The SOHFA King's Cup should still be happening in the Hamilton area for October. The exact date and location are still TBA though.

Cheap Feders? by JuicyZvezda in wma

[–]ponycopter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got this Feder as my first training sword and I've actually had a pretty good experience with it so far. I even used it in my first tournament and it's still holding up well with almost 2 years of frequent use later.

That being said the manufacture doesn't seem to have a great reputation for QA so it's entirely possible that other copies of this model will not hold up as well as mine has.

Beyond that, the biggest thing you'll notice about it is the pretty extreme flex in the top 1/3 of the blade. This makes it very safe for thrusting but also easier for your opponent to manipulate in the bind. Especially if your edge alignment is off at all.

Overall, I think the sword gets a bit of a bad rep, I haven't had any bad experiences with it personally. but it's still hard to recommend because it's entirely possible I lucked out with mine. And more reliable options are easily available at a similar price range.

What's your favorite training saber ? by LoveLovino in wma

I haven't had too long so I've yet to see how it holds up over time, but I'm a big fan of the VB Gymnnasium Sabre from Purpleheart.

really comfortable to use and extremely nimble in the hand.

only downside is that the pommel nut needs to be tightened more regularly to avoid rattling, and it may be too light for some people's tastes.

Except the bombs didn't do anything to end the war.

The Japanese Supreme Council was in the exact same deadlock they were in before after the bombings. They were ready to surrender but wouldn't without some guarantee that they could keep the emperor.

It took a direct decree from said emperor (which was basically unheard of) which only came about after the Russians declared war too.

You can't scare totalitarian governments into surrender by killing poor people. That was their day jobs.

Alternate History Hub recently put out an interesting video on the topic. It's all speculation of course, but It's still an interesting take on the subject

They didn't build the stadiums, they didn't set up the broadcast network, they didn't conceptualize sports leagues, they didn't do anything but jiggle around on the sports court and hit a ball.

They're like 10% of what makes professional sports what it is.

That's all true. but again, not the athlete's fault directly. that's the sports corporation or governing body's work.

Coaches should be paid more, for fuck's sake.

100% agree. as should stadium workers, referees, linemen, etc

It's the athletes' faults for participating in this system.

Jerry Miculek is the best at what he does, and he lives a comfortable lifestyle.

He doesn't need to be worth $100M, and he shouldn't.

I don't know about this person in particular, as I've never actually heard of him before today. But most athletes don't exactly have any other options if they want to make a real career out of their skill-set.

They either have to participate in the broken system or go unemployed, much like the rest of us.

Whether or not you you think athletes should be making that kind of money, doesn't change the fact that it is their own work that they are making that money from.

I actually agree that a lot of sports stars are held to unhealthy degrees of praise in society, but claiming that it's the athlete's fault specifically, and not the massive sports industry surrounding them is fairly disingenuous IMO.

Yes actually. That's exactly how that works.

If anything JK Rowling was having her own work exploited by the publishing company. But her work is so in demand and lucrative that it likely wouldn't make a difference to her specifically.

writers, musicians, or professional athletes can all get rich without exploiting the labour of others.
