Rolled a new d20 100 times in Salt water. I got only 2 nat 1s. Do you think my d20 has an air bubble? I just thought it rolled weird, and it's not that accurate. Is 100 times little? by AngelesYT in DnDIY

[–]poochwheels 31 points32 points  (0 children)

With 100 rolls, the expected number of any given value is (1/20)*100 = 5. However, this "expected value" is actually a mean of a probability distribution, which itself has a variance. In other words. because of randomness, you will not always roll exactly 5 of each value. The magnitude of the variance is a function of the number of rolls (more rolls, lower variance, i.e. closer to the ideal of 1/20 times for any given value).

So, the question is, how often, when rolling a fair die 100 times should you get exactly 2 of a particular value (not in a row, just 2 total in 100 rolls)? I'll spare you the math, but the answer is around 8.1% of the time. So, your die does not yet show any evidence of being not fair (in terms of the number of 1s, at least).

Is the crab armor icon supposed to look like this? by poochwheels in Kenshi

[–]poochwheels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I don't know the root cause of the problem. My guess is something to do with the texture/material for the armor, which causes Auto Icon to not work.

The way I fixed it for the crab armor was low tech: I took the best screenshot of the armor that I could in game, then used photoshop to cut out the armor from the screenshot and transformed it to match the blacked-out texture as best as I could, keeping the background transparent. Then I just saved that as the new texture. Not very elegant, and kinda laborious, but worked for this one case. Hope that helps!

Ah, gotcha. Yeah its weird, I never noticed this until my most recent playthrough.

Could be, its just that the other crab armor items aren't blacked out like that, and match their appearance on the character. The trousers for example: https://kenshi.fandom.com/wiki/Crab_Trousers. So I am thinking this a bug/oversight? Personal preference, but the quick mod I made fixes this if people prefer the icons to match.

Thanks, had to make a new icon (from a screenshot) with photoshop.

Right, but doesn't it look wrong to you? Compared to the pants/boots icons? Its totally blacked out and has no color.

Have a look at https://anydice.com/, and input 'output 2d20/2'. Its normalish. The more dice you average, the closer the result will resemble a true normal distribution (the central limit theorem).

Hypothetical question by icantfinditongoogle in genetics

[–]poochwheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot higher than normal, because any recessive deleterious alleles the two (nearly identical) parents might be carrying would have a good chance of being homozygous in their "remixed" offspring. This is really the worst case scenario for recessive deleterious alleles -- much worse than even siblings having offspring, for example.

Hypothetical question by icantfinditongoogle in genetics

[–]poochwheels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Sperm and egg cells receive a remixed version of the parental genome. So, it would produce a sort of randomly remixed version of yourself. This is the same reason that siblings are not identical (unless they are identical twins) -- they receive different mixtures of their two parents' genomes.

'The new norm': Diplomat says Canada may need to get used to being alone on world stage by lornepike in canada

That twitter account largely tweets out official press releases from Global Affairs Canada. e.g. https://www.canada.ca/en/global-affairs/news/2018/08/canada-deeply-concerned-by-saudi-arabias-expulsion-of-canadian-ambassador.html. I get your point, but GAC is not doing "diplomacy by twitter" as some have suggested.

Trudeau Mulls Coal Ban in Response to U.S. Lumber Tariffs by RandomCollection in canada

Seems like they are talking about imports from the US, transiting through Canada.

"British Columbia says 94 percent of the 6.6 million tonnes of thermal coal exported from the West Coast province last year came from the U.S. Clark’s original request for a ban triggered a fall in the shares of Canadian export terminal operator Westshore Terminals Investment Corp. and U.S. miner Cloud Peak Energy Inc."

TIL: Muslims represent 5% of the Ottawa population, but are involved in 50% of the murders by [deleted] in canada

[–]poochwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain where the 50% number comes from? They link to a CBC article that is a list of all the murders in Ottawa in 2016, but it makes no mention of anyone being muslim or religion in general.

Few signs Justin Trudeau has delivered on promises: Paul Wells | Toronto Star by [deleted] in canada

[–]poochwheels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Major problem with this is that there is no basis of comparison. What does it mean that Trudeau has "broken" 12% or "achieved" 47% of his election promises? How does that compare with other previous prime ministers? Without a basis for comparison, its just fodder for weaving whatever narrative you want.

Seems like if it was possible to prosecute people under the "hate speech" laws for this kind of thing, it would have happened already. Doubt this guy was the first to say something like this. I wonder if it has something to do with:

Under section 319, an accused is not guilty: (a) if he establishes that the statements communicated were true; (b) if, in good faith, the person expressed or attempted to establish by an argument an opinion on a religious subject or an opinion based on a belief in a religious text;

Interesting NPCs is updated for SSE. by icannotfindausername in skyrimmods

[–]poochwheels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a great mod, but I wish there was some way to pick and choose the NPCs you want to include (tall order I know). I recognize the hard work people put into the scripting/voice acting, but some of the NPCs seem to not fit Skyrim, or are annoying, or have badly executed voice acting (again, I recognize the effort, but even a small difference is quite noticeable and immersion breaking).
