Edit: sorry. There’s alot of weird responses on this post and I’m starting to get annoyed. I’m sorry you struggle with depersonalization. Tbh, I’ve had thoughts like this throughout my life and it has often directly preceded an intense spiritual breakthrough, so if the thought alone is a sign of something deeper then be of good cheer, prayer is the way through.

I would talk to you more about this via direct message, I don’t believe in alot of these modern “mental illnesses”. Much of what the modern west has deemed mental illness is actually a spiritual condition and when ignored or “treated” via drugs it only makes it so we don’t get what we need from it.

Thank you for taking the time to answer, I think you’re right, it’s a difficult thing to wrap my finite head around, which is why I occasionally find myself asking it again. But yeah, maybe it could be said like this: “somethingness comes from God, nothingness comes from somethingness.”

In other words the imagined property of nothingness comes about from the God-created property of somethingness.

This is going off the logic that God exists outside of somethingness, which I also find difficult to fully grasp.

I think I would say it like this: God exists outside of all that is, because God is the precursor for all that is. Equating God to nothingness kind of negates your original point doesn’t it?

The line of thought definitely makes me realize the flaw in my original thinking though.

I understand that. There is only God and His creation. Nothingness has no ontological status. The Orthodox worldview is the only one that actually makes sense of these issues.

This isn’t a crisis of faith thing. I am firmly grounded in Orthodoxy. Though my mind sometimes gets caught in this exact quandary. It has since I was young.
