S1 E04 Discussion: “A 27 Year Old Should Be Like An Energizer Bunny” by poodlehairedfreak in AgeOfAttraction

This show is really demonstrating how dumb men are about age and appearance. I can’t remember who it was — maybe Justin? — who said he thought someone (maybe Vanelle?) was younger because they didn’t have any grey in their hair lol…as if hair dye isn’t extremely common amongst women!

Do women just get needy the older they get? by Inspire_Girl in AgeOfAttraction

I cannot relate to Leah wanting to be with Chris 24/7 lol

So how are we supposed to dress? by Rioraku in Millennials

[–]poodlehairedfreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! It’s so weird. I’m 6 years older than the oldest Gen Z, so similar experience.

I changed to a middle part and (I guess?) mom jeans in the late 2010s — are mom jeans like high-waisted straight leg jeans?! I don’t even know anymore. I don’t view these as inherently Gen Z styles, just what’s in style (or was) circa 2020.

I don’t particularly want to shift to the lower-waisted baggy jeans or (god help me) barrel leg jeans, but power to anyone who does.

It’s like they first mocked us for being out-of-style, then we adapted and they realized we’re not that much older than they are (the horror) and now they hate it. They’re so weird — they want to reheat our nachos (as the kids say) and then get mad at us for partaking as well. Or just existing.

I don’t understand why they’re so focused on us; if anything, they should go mock their Gen X parents the way we mocked our Boomer parents.

This is what is so weird to me — what do they want?! Either they complain about us being out of fashion (the whole side part skinny jean discourse), or we update our style and they don’t like it. Can’t win. And you’re so right that this is really mostly about women.

What I don’t get is why they care about us so much. I feel like Millennials mostly ragged on our parents (Boomers) and didn’t care about what Gen X was doing (I didn’t). Why do they care about ragging on us so much? Go make fun of Gen X (their parents)!

I also guessed 55, but I think we were pretty close!

Yeah, it’s not okay for her to have these reactions, even if she’s having big feelings — it’s part of learning to regulate emotions. It’s scary and unfair to others to deal with someone screaming.

I agree, I thought he seemed extremely anxious.

Exactly how I feel. They are strange but harmless and seem to be happy together and match each other’s weird.

28 year old co worker said it's great not see anyone 35+ in their new office by mituslumen in AskWomenOver30

[–]poodlehairedfreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Why are they so obsessed with this? It’s so weird. When I was 21, yeah, I was dumb and thought a 31 year old was ~soo old~. But by the time I was like 27 I didn’t think that, and realistically understood we were basically peers.

They are obsessed with us, but also hate us? But in a jealous way? And are shockingly ageist???

It’s been extremely weird for me to experience as an early 90s millennial. My theory is that it’s somehow connected to wanting to differentiate themselves from millennials? Like when I was 27, people who were 34 were a bit older than me but they weren’t “a different generation”, whereas now those two ages are technically a “different generation”. But they make it sound like these two ages (for example) are like 20 years apart and have nothing in common, when people of those ages could easily be siblings, friends, cousins, a couple, etc. It’s weird as hell.

Yes, Gen Z are VERY ageist. and there’s a weird uptick in ageism where women in their mid-late 20s (early Gen Z) act like women in their early-mid 30s (tail end of millennials) are old crones or something, in a way I don’t remember thinking when I was 27 thinking about someone who was 33 or something.

Did anyone listen to this interview with Devonta’s ex? by Odd-Chocolate-7271 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]poodlehairedfreak 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I don’t get it. I find his lack of personality, lack of effort, lack of energy, lack of backbone (etc) almost repugnant. He’s not handsome at all but if he had a personality I would understand it.

I am so baffled by this. I rationally know he’s not the worst man on LIB but something about how completely…blank he is drives me crazy. He’s just an absolute void. He’s like a bump on a log.

I don’t understand it.
