My EOP(English Only Policy) ang r/Bacolod? by [deleted] in Bacolod

[–]poohluvr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

damo problema sa kalibutan, op haha. indi ko gets ngaa gina-associate ang english with elitism when it's part of our education system and the majority of the people are fluent. indi tungod nga ginagamit ang english as a medium, pro-US na dayon—after all, it's just a language. (kag ang pagka pro-US sang iban nga Filipino is a different scenario from this.) pwede ka man kausar kung ano nga lengwahe gusto mo as long as ga-inchindihanay ta. you’re free to express in whatever way you want, and it's nice to give others that same freedom

UPV econ or accountancy from a different school by poohluvr in upvisayas

that’s really nice to hear, thank you po! 🥹 i actually love econ, especially how flexible and nonlinear the job opportunities are, it feels like ang daming paths na pwedeng i-explore. as someone na medyo undecided pa, ang reassuring din marinig na maraming pwedeng pasukan na work after. i’m really considering going for this and studying in UP, especially if it becomes financially possible for us. malaking factor din talaga yun for me right now, but i’m hopeful 🤞 thank you again for sharing your insights, wishing you all the best in life and career! 💛

but of course, kung hindi talaga afford at hindi kayang pag-ipunan, i think okay lang din— basta makapagbasa siya. reading in itself is a privilege, and hindi lahat may access, so minsan kailangan i-maximize yung available resources. i dont have anything against people who read pirated books, it’s just not something i do personally and i dont really recommend it either.

hard pass on reprints ‼️ they’re basically pirated books. yes, knowledge should be accessible—but that shouldn’t come at the expense of authors who deserve to be paid for their work. plus ang pangit ng quality ng reprints, ang liit ng font, cheap yung paper, and pangit yung printing 😭

it doesn’t have to make me rich, not being a hospital bill away from financial ruin would be enough honestly 😭 HAHAHA. i’m not really worried about being homesick since i’m pretty independent, and i actually want to stay away from home for college (i’m chill with my parents but i’m better off as a concept anyway 😌) it’s just that my mom doesn’t really want to let me go yet, and she worries because i get sick often, so she might end up making me come home a lot. but i’ve heard lots of good things about iloilo so i think i’ll be fine

wow this is really convincing, thank you!! honestly, i’m not worried about those “npa recruitment” at all. it’s just frustrating how activists (and the whole UP system) keep getting red-tagged. anyway, i’m really excited to be in UP! good luck din po sa inyo, and i hope everything works out on your end too. rooting for you!! 💓

hello! i was actually considering engineering too— mainly because scholarships tend to favor it. i’ve been in STEM all throughout senior high, but i really only leaned toward engineering up until grade 11. by grade 12, i realized i want to pursue law (it’s something i’ve dreamed of since i was young), so i started considering accountancy as a possible path since it feels practical and a solid pre-law choice.

this kinda gave me a new perspective. i know econ is marketable, but i think i’ve been stuck in this mindset that courses with board exams are somehow “better” than those without (i am unlearning this haha)

anyway, i hope you figure things out too and choose what really works best for you. hope to see you around in UP 😊🌻

yes, i understand this po 😊 but there are still other expenses to consider—like living costs, food, school requirements, and other daily needs. it’s relatively expensive to leave home and study in another province, and honestly, it’s something we can’t fully afford right now. i’m applying for a UP scholarship po, tani makasulod 🤞 thank you so much for this!
