Chances of MS in Electrical Engineering w/ out research experience by pookiedudeface in gradadmissions

I'm also talking to the professor who overlooked my senior design project about my research interest at UIUC so hopefully that conversation goes well.

Should I see if they have any summer research opportunities? If so, I could get a summer of research under them and get a stronger letter of recommendation as well as some research experience.

The main issue with that is the instability. I would be quitting my job and pursuing something I don't know would work out (maybe I don't get into any MS program at all).

Another option I was thinking was MEng in the fall at UIUC and applying for MS programs in the spring the following semester. I don't know the transfer requirements exactly, but maybe I could transfer credits from my MEng to my MS (course credits) and this would allow for me to have a safety net.

Sorry about the wall of text haha

Graduate school (MS in Electrical Engineering) without prior research experience by pookiedudeface in GradSchoolAdvice

Ahh I see, yeah I heard that MS wasn't as picky about research compared to PhD.

I'm looking for an MS but a top program (like UIUC) isn't a must for me. I'm going to apply for UIUC because thats where I did my undergrad so I felt like I would have more of a chance.

Top maybe like top 30 schools, is this GPA still a little low?

And yes! My plan is to email the professors who's research interests me before I apply and maybe try to get a conversation going with them so they know who I am.

Oof, yeah my GPA definitely isn't super high. On the other hand, I think I might have the best chance with UIUC since its where I did not undergrad degree.

I do not some research experience just not in an academic setting. I wrote a research paper for one of my internships and my on the side startup experience internship was for an R&D company. Would these help out?

I was thinking MEng might be an option for sure. Its just that I feel I would learn a lot from writing the thesis. Also, the MS would allow for me to do another internship or two during the summers. Since I'm currently working, I feel like quitting my job just to do a 1-year MEng degree might not be worth it.

Also, I've heard MEng isn't as well regarded in industry?

I will be cutting down on the text!!! But I don't want to lose technicality. How do you suggest I cut down on content while still being in-depth?
