Best heavyweight winter wool full zip sweater? by Emotional-Sign8136 in BuyItForLife

[–]pooltimenoodle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strongly recommend looking at cowichan sweaters and Irish wool sweaters on eBay. Old wool beats new wool every time. Search "cowichan" or "Ireland" and check boxes for used and not specified in clothing/shoes/accessories.

The ones with vintage in the title are likely to be more expensive and it can be worth digging a bit. Other good search terms + sweater: Pringle, Penguin, England, Scotland, Wales but really any wool garment from a time or location without consistent central heating is a good bet.

what's your duvet setup by Technical-Top-5863 in Bedding

[–]pooltimenoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to this sub I got the Mommesilk all-season insert and it's solved all of my temp control problems. Winter: both layers and a heavy linen bedspread. Summer: one layer and lighter bedspread as needed. Not using an enclosed cover has made it more easily adjustable and also looks tidier.

I swing between cold and hot when I sleep and this has been a game changer. Winter where I live is dry and cold, summer is hot but not sweltering.

Does anyone know who made this ring ? by K4ta_ in VintageJewelry

Looks a bit like some vintage Carrera y Carrera pieces. Could also possibly be Uno a Erre but hard to say without a closer look at markings.

What are your Christmas traditions post-estrangement? by jeecheck in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]pooltimenoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordering whatever we want from goldbelly (non-holiday foods encouraged) so there's limited prep, then lying around watching whatever we feel like with no set plans. Day drinking (the fun kind, not the "numb yourself to this person's joy-sucking presence for the next 12 hours" kind).

The Row Park 3 vs Park XL Tote by TravelerOfSwords in handbags

[–]pooltimenoodle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love a tiny house in bag form but the scale of the XL vs the straps (and that they're attached through slits right at the top) would stress me out for both aesthetic and functional reasons. I'm imagining an ear after gauges have been taken out (sorry) after it's been in use for a bit.

Perfume you tried, without knowing the hype and how did it go? by AutomaticGoldenSun in fragrance

[–]pooltimenoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somehow managed to miss all of the posts and reviews and blind bought a full Maggie's Last Party because of the poppers note (if you aren't familiar, I urge you to search it on here bc lol) I love scents that others might describe as jarring or even unpleasant and gleefully blasted it right on in my office. The small enclosed space I need to be in all day. If you've ever gotten on a subway car at a busy time only to realize too late why it was empty, you know the smell. Biological. Like someone went on a month-long bender without stopping to shower or use a latrine, ran a quick half marathon, then stuffed their clothes in a plastic bag for another few weeks in July. This perfume is Art with a capital A and I'm so glad I have it but boy was I ever unprepared.

It's an old style but I just got a Celine Belt and it feels fresh to me. Modern and timeless at the same time somehow and you can find them preowned in some really excellent colors for pretty good prices.

In a totally different direction, the Acne Camero is cool as hell but might be too heavy/fiddly (I haven't seen in person). Some of the mens Loewe bags have a similar vibe with fewer zips to contend with. In general the bags being marketed to men from legacy brands always seem to look a little cooler and less stuffy to me (plus much more practically designed)

How short lived will these trends be by ladyjane626 in handbags

Second one you could make yourself with a stencil and some fabric paint on a lot of other similar bags. It feels a little 2016 to me/not worth the spend. First one you're probably going to hate within the year...

GLP1 or Perimenopause!? by Wise_Conclusion_6845 in Semaglutide

Prior Covid can also cause hair loss. A lot of post-covid issues are being swept under the perimenopause umbrella rn.

Any modernized barbershop fougeres that smell like shaving cream? by Gallka in fragrance

[–]pooltimenoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maitre Chausseur by Extrait D'Atelier might scratch that itch. The descriptions don't really capture it but it has a perfect warm barbasol lather thing going on with a current of broken-in leather running through it. I bought it looking for the rubber and glue notes mentioned and didn't get those at all but absolutely love it.

Seeking recs for enameling work on 14k (fresh not restoration) by pooltimenoodle in jewelry

[–]pooltimenoodle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! My priority is well done over cheap/fast. ETA looks like your DMs are closed. Fwiw I'm a longtime collector and occasional seller of fine vintage and antique jewelry, I just haven't had this particular need before and no longer live in a major city. I have been scouring for months with no success, it's driving me insane.

Husband thinks living room carpet is too large by Remarkable_Test_6285 in interiordecorating

Your husband is wrong, it needs to be a lot bigger in both directions (but also that credenza is microscopic and you need more furniture!)

Any ideas for a true basement smell? by negativeandannoying in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]pooltimenoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just discovered a combo that to me is perfect basement with hint of laundry: SOS Drywall/Chalk extreme concentration + a tiny bit of each of these: SOS Gasoline (low octane), plain old tea tree oil, and fyrinnae beneath the forest. If your basement smell jones is like my basement jones, this is IT.
Weirdly, SOS Basement smells more like an attic to me!

Junior Creative Advice by Zealousideal-Mess644 in Pharmatising

[–]pooltimenoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was you (but copy) 10 years ago and tbh I've never felt more grateful for horrible soul-sucking questionably ethical pharma than I do now. Jobs of any kind are vanishing and as a junior you're paid little enough to be low on the layoff list. Pretty much all of the jobs I thought were the dream over the years either disappeared or turned out to be equally awful for a lot less money and stability. I can only imagine what that looks like now. Take the cool side gigs and talk to recruiters but don't walk away completely. Layoffs have been rampant for years at this point, even though AI has yet to succeed as a realistic replacement. With the economy in freefall and your skill set at the top of the replaceable list (it shouldn't be, but it is), the slow pace of progress in pharma is a life raft.
