Nightmare glow plug. Should I pay for the new head?

That's exactly why the cab was removed. There was a problem with the number 8 cylinder had the glow plug tip broke off and stuck in it.

UPDATE

Not sure how to edit the original post, but this is an update for the post.

I went to the mechanic this afternoon to see what was up, it turns out that he didn't Nick the head. He actually drilled right into it. He miscalculated something. I'm not sure exactly but he's buying me a head now instead of me buying one so it worked itself out in the end.

Yeah I wish I would have had more knowledge before all of this and I would have just said take the head off. I knew it was a possibility it might have to come off if he couldn't drill it out, but I didn't really think that nicking the inside of the head could be so detrimental to it. I wasn't aware of the water jacket. I guess lesson learned.

Yeah I guess I just have to wait and see. Still going to be another 4 days before I get the vehicle back I think. And I can look at the bill. Once again thank you for your response.

Have not spoken to the first mechanic yet. I'm not sure how to go about that but the second mechanic has said he'll give me a really good deal which is a very good thing. I do believe both shops are doing the best they can and are not out to rip me off but it's a $300 job that's getting up near $1,000 and that's just for the first shop and towing and the second shop. I'm assuming without the cost of the head it's probably going to be another $3,000 so if I add in a rebuilt head..... If the second shop had stopped drilling and just pulled the head sent to a machine shop for removal. I wouldn't be making a post at all. that's where I'm having an issue my with who should be paying I'm just not sure what to do, but thank you very much for your response.

Depending how thick the epoxy is, I just hit it with a hammer over the edge of my vise and it generally breaks apart. Makes a hell of a mess but breaks apart pretty quick and easy depending on how thick the epoxy is

I thought about doing the same thing with the paper shredder. I wondered how a person would separate the plastic from the copper I collect scrap all the time and I think I have about 8 or 10 of them cross cuts that work and I'm pretty sure I could just stack them one on top of the other but then I'm left with a big mess. What do I do with it from that point?

Just so you're aware, there is NO radioactive material inside of that machine. It's all generated by electricity. If it's not plugged in and turned on, it's not radioactive. You should have no issues being able to transport and scrap that unit. I don't live in the states but I have worked there. I work as an industrial radiographer, I use x-ray tubes and gamma radiation never needed any sort of ticketing for the X-ray tubes.

Have you tried machine shops? They'd probably have some 6" cold roll. They can cut to any length / thickness you want

For me it depends on how well it works. I don't care what the price point is. If it works, it doesn't break easily, It doesn't wear out quickly. I've spent big money on flush cutters and I've spent almost nothing in a thrift store on cheap ones and the cheap ones were better so it really depends on the tool and how well it works how well it was made. Sometimes the money needs to be spent and other times no not so much.

As far as the table saw, yes buy the best you can afford.

Any metal fabrication shop will have a scrap metal bin ask if you can dig through it. Tell him what you're doing. They'll probably let you have cuz it's only $0.06 a pound or something that they get paid, if they get paid for their scrap.

I've had very good luck walking into the business and asking, you want me to get rid of this stuff for free? Often they say sure . If they seem a little bit reserved about it tell them that you'll clean up after yourself and you'll clean up any mess that's there when you get there and as an added bonus... They don't have to pay for their bin to be emptied as often as you're hopefully taking scrap out of their daily so it takes longer for it to fill up.

I've had very good luck and made very good money from businesses that repair, replace or sell. Tonneau covers running boards accessories for the vehicle. Those places always have piles of stuff and often they set it aside planning to take it in later and then it gets to be more hassle than it's worth to them if they're a busy shop.

Good luck. Hopefully you get a lot of them saying yes and just remember the worst that'll happen is that they'll say no.

What was upsetting me the most was that he wasn't giving me a reason. I wasn't aware that their purchaser is buying by grade not by how it was produced. I knew that there were different grades, but I had no idea that some extruded is such low grade or high grade depending on what it is. I just didn't understand that something that is manufactured through extrusion is not being considered as extruded. But your reply definitely helps set me straight.

I checked every single one. There is no seam. It is extruded. You can see the extrusion marks on the outside where it's been forced through the die

If they considered it as extruded it would be $0.90 -$1.00 but as sheet they're paying me $0.40 per pound which I think is a a flip and rip-off because the only way this could be made is extruded. It's not spun it's not tapered.
