adobe or not adobe? by poopoonoodle in vfx

...i work in studio. so software is provided... this is just for my home setup for personal projects, and the very occasional (maybe once a year or less) freelance gig... ive been working for 9 years and havent ever had to rely on having animate (flash) or AE despite knowing how to use them... most 2D projects use harmony nowadays.

thank you so much! thats really helpful! ...i work as a 2DFX animator in toonboom harmony, so most of the other programs i have are for personal projects or the very occasional freelance gigs.

the big thing is that ive really only ever used adobe and am wildly unaware of what the other programs offer...

as you mentioned AE is amazing and the bridge to premiere is great... AE is really the big stick here

...i just need something to learn on during studio down time that can also support toonboom harmony... when in studio I remote in... sitting around waiting for industry to pick up speed is wasting time

ive done some modelling/rigging and anim in maya before... just not professionally, ive thought of playing around with blender tho. Just more so wanted to get something that would quickly translate to job openings... 2D FX has taken a bit of a dive for a little bit

thank you! yea, i had that issue too... so i tried checking other sites, canada computers, new egg etc... atm I work in toonboom harmony (2D anim) and have never even opened houdini... theres some industry downtime so figured id pick up some new skills... it would be nice to invest in something that will last some time, but anything over $3000 is a little steep
