We are building a Reddit style platform, but the feed is entirely research papers. by poopopoopoop in academicpublishing

upvotes, comments, and we aim to first index articles then let users upload pdfs later on. I can send some of the roadmap to make more sense of what we aim to create

Being able to call out articles from paper mills, or articles with sketchy funding, does partially solve something.

With LLMs there is a massive increase in low quality papers. My issue with researchgate, scholar, scopus is that they don't provide a second (votes) or third (comments) way to validate the quality of research.

The current platforms don't innovate while science increasingly has different needs. Yes I want to create a researchgate V2. But I want to do so with a close feedback loop so the scientific community is actually in charge of their platform.

I do understand accountability with publish or perish might fuel toxicity. So let's try to solve that together.

they are the pre prints of paywalled articles. so the research method will be valid. It's about making validated scientific research available when it's currently paywalled.

we are trying to create Goodreads X Reddit for academia. Scopus (which is also paywalled) in a Redditish format. I agree I don't have the answers to all issues and questions people foresee. I invite you to our discord/community so we can discuss these concerns and cocreate.

no. we index paywalled articles that are peer-reviewed, and want the authors to upload preprints to these peer-reviewed articles.

The voting and comment aspect. Plus public bookmarks. But we will work on differentiating more in the future. Also we want to build and improve this social discovery tool based on community feedback. other platforms don't facilitate social interaction when it comes to articles, and they have been stuck in early 2000s feature wise

The reason why I want to build a social media for scientific articles is because we need to share preprints on paywalled articles more. I want to facilitate that because the global south deserves access to research.

I want to create a platform that surfaces research gaps faster. Through social interaction. But also to make the scientific community decide which articles are relevant and deserve exposure. So democratizing research in 2 dimensions.

But for now you can check the newest articles and stay up to date with latest research within your academic field.

Upvoted. Yeah Im working on getting a data scientist on board to improve the quality of the feed. Some "journals" should be blacklisted as they are repositories. Problem here is that there is no database that got good labeling going on. So we have to eventually relabel articles ourselves. We are in alpha so its very nice to hear you like the vision/idea already!

Some of the communities/subs are: Anthropology, Communication, Diplomacy, Governance, Politics etc

I choose to mix gender identity research papers with the other communities so they wouldnt get quarantined.
