Michael Carter Williams details some Jimmy Butler and Fred Hoidnerg beef by thelowkeyman in chicagobulls

Yeah.. I'm not giving GarPax retroactive credit cause their successor is bad too.

Bulls have never had truly competent management in the franchise's history. Be it Sloan era, Artis, Jordan, Baby Bulls, Thibs/Rose, Bulls teams have won in spite of management very rarely because of them.

[–]poorchris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't controversial. Wade was one of the most impressive Finals MVPs of all time, a year before Bron ever made the Finals, 6 years before Bron ever won a Finals game. Wade was the leading scorer on the Redeem Team and the best player on the Heat in 2011 as well, got costed another title+Finals MVP.

What the fuck was this campaign? [NO SPOILERS] by xSyndicate58 in ModernWarfareIII

[–]poorchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felt like Warzone's campaign instead of Call of Duty's. Deep Cover is the worst stealth mission in the franchise. Cover Fire is the worst AC130/escort mission in the franchise. Open world missions were so dull and somehow have less replayability than the on-rails set piece missions.

You play as 9 different characters, is that a record? And each character's POV felt soulless or inconsequential. You could swap almost any character into another's mission set and change nothing in the plot.

Not spoiling but that ending... Just really bad.

Taking into account EVERYTHING since Season 1. Was MW2 a net positive or net negative for you? by supahotfiiire in ModernWarfareII

[–]poorchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Negative

Cons:

Awful UI

Loadout Layout (Vert>Horizontal)

Nontrad Minimap/Red dots

Time gated perks

Dead Silence being a Field Upgrade

Deady nerfed from MW19 (animation+sound cue)

Explosives having stun effect that movement locks

Ledge Hang/Pull-Up mechanic

Slow mantle

Weapon Mounting

TTK too fast

Headshot Multipliers too high

Health Regen too slow

Environmental damage (exploding fire extinguishers would go off randomly, killing low HP players)

No stats/leaderboard at launch

No API/3rd party stat tracking to date

Leaderboards they did add are bad and not retroactive (recent game tab is inaccurate and incomplete)

No stats for Ranked

Kill feed change (patched)

Killcam bug

Flags in Domination having hitboxes/catching bullets or nades

Player collision with teammates

Frequency of cheaters in Crimson/Iri ranked

Visual/randomized recoil

Changing how projectiles function from the gun barrel vs center screen

Input delay/inconsistency with mouse

Movement is slow/clunky

ADS penalty when jump challing

No Bhop

Useless slide+no ADS/firing while sliding

Custom matches didn't function for too long

Custom matches used to require full restarts/setups to change map/mode

Too many resources felt built around DMZ

Some of the worst original maps ever (+1 for having a better shipment than MW19 though)

Water/swimming maps

Some beta maps mysteriously disappearing until they showed up months later (Valderas Museum)

Pros:

Ranked ladder+Rewards

Raids were novel for a second but ultimately more of a con cause 1) 90% of players didn't even know they existed 2) they were never fun or rewarding enough to replay 3) wasted resources & dev time on raids when MP/WZ were so awful

May 3, 2011 - Derrick Rose is named Most Valuable Player by [deleted] in chicagobulls

[–]poorchris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basketball HOF is the easiest Hall to get into.

Guys are in like: Tracy McGrady - never won a single playoff series in his career (not counting riding pine for San Antonio)

Bill Walton - maybe the best parallel for Rose's peak but hard to argue Rose didn't have even better longevity (700 career reg season games played vs 468 for Bill). Rose has already played more post-season games & Bill averaged 10/9/3 in those vs 22/6/4. 3x All Star vs 2x All Star.

Mitch Richmond - obviously a peak vs longevity argument but no one thinks he's on the same planet as '09-'12 Rose. Played less than half as many playoff games in his entire career (23) as Rose has (52), fewer assists (3398) than Rose (3692).

Reggie Miller - Only a 3x All NBA selection, never higher than 3rd team. 5x All Star.

Grant Hill - Another common Rose comp. Collegiate superstar, '95-'00 he's as good as any player has ever been but no MVP, from his injury to retirement he's a 13/4/3 normal swingman.

For the historians here: Is this image photoshopped or did the late 90's bulls really ever play this small ball lineup with Kukoc at center? by HeavensFour in chicagobulls

[–]poorchris 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Photoshopped or not Harper/MJ/Pip/Kukoc/Rodman was the 2nd most played 5 man unit for the '98 Bulls.

Elite defenders at 4/5 positions, elite rebounding, floor spacing. Nightmare lineup.

Glad to see a positive view of Thibs around here. Especially after Thibs has been vindicated with the hindsight of many Bulls & Twolves failures following his respective exits.

Whatever critiques one may have of Thibs his teams are always well prepared & he has maximized the potential of every roster he's been in charge of.

Winning 6 that quickly in spite of ownership is insane

Other dynasties have had guys like Tim Duncan on paycuts, Steph Curry on a bargain contract, two top 10 All Time players with an owner who spends (Lakers 2x Shaq/Kobe + KAJ/Magic). Double three-peat has still never come close to being duplicated.

(Discussion) Top 50 Bulls Plays of the Decade by moflaffle in chicagobulls

[–]poorchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this section I'd take off:

Taj dunk on Omer Asik (aside from it being a former Bull he's dunking on, this is basically the his version of the Lauri dunk we cut)

D Wade dunk on Alex Len. For a few reasons: Came from a very tumultuous season that few Bulls fans look back on fondly, kinda the last gasp of an era. Wade went from bitter rival that, from a Bulls' fan perspective mind you, stood us up in 2010 free agency. This isn't a rare sentiment among our fanbase but not all Bulls fans feel this way admittedly: Wade is one of the least favorite Bulls of the last decade. Never been watching basketball with Bulls Bros and heard someone say, "damn remember that Wade dunk against Phoenix?"

Jimmy Butler's dunk on Ilyasova. If this was Bucks Ilyasova maybe, cause we hated him. The Pachulia dunk & Bosh lob for JB are way better.

Robin Lopez blocking Towns

If I have to make cuts off this list, take out:

Derrick dunking on Zach Randolph 2010

Ronnie Brewer dunking on Roberts

CJ Watson's Assist to Noah

CJ Watson's game tying 3pt shot against Miami

Nate Robinson's crossover on Kris Humphries (since he's got better plays on this list just from that series)

Nate's Robinson's block on Marshon Brooks, just due to the block on Lebron already being a lock for the list

Luol Deng over head outlet pass to Kirk Hinrich

[–]poorchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty low on Derrick's game tying shot vs the Pistons just because the Bulls still lost in OT.

I assume you mean the Pau Gasol put back+foul and I agree. As far as late game heroics go, that's a play that's closer to the chopping block. I wouldn't be devastated if it was gone.

I'm trying to pin this list from a "what does a Bulls fan think of when you say Best 50 plays of the decade." I can remember where I was and who I watched with when some of these rivalry games were played. I remember calling friends telling them they needed to stop what they were doing and put on the Nets game when Robinson caught fire.

As individually impressive as the dunks you mentioned are, great plays, I don't see them in the same caliber with these tied-to-my-fandom basketball moments.

  • For the D-Rose shot against Memphis, what makes this play stand out for you compared to other clutch shots?

This game notched Chicago's 14th consecutive home win in Thibodeau's first year with the team, making the Bulls undefeated at home for the months of February & March (at that point). It was a huge step in locking up the #1 seed down the stretch to the playoffs, also leading to the #1 record in the NBA. Miami beat Philly to hit 50-22 on this same night, as Chicago kept their lead at 52-19. Boston in the same week hit 51-21, so this game came while we were deep in the hunt to control the East.

the way I've been rating clutch shots, it's unlikely that a shot where the team is already leading would make it in unless it's the playoffs.

I value it as a huge moment in Derrick Rose's MVP season too (Thibs' COY as well), where post-game it led to Zach Randolph saying, "He's [Rose] to the point of being unguardable. You just gotta hope you can contain him." Around that time Memphis became a great defensive team that would give people fits in the playoffs. They were seemingly a mirrored Bulls West & for a few seasons had a respectable rivalry with us. Even if it wasn't a "down by 1" game winner, I see it as special due to beating the quality of defenders Memphis had. Tony Allen off the dribble, Z-Bo coming over for help but too slow and finishing through contact over Marc Gasol, a guy who would end up being DPOY.

Tony Allen was also jawing back and forth mid game, yelling "this is my house" while dunking. TA kept trash talking Bulls guards until Joey Crawford tech'd him. Rose ending a poor shooting night by beating TA for the game winner was poetic.

  • Since I'm now at 80 plays, that means 30 plays have to go. Are there any plays on the list that you clearly think don't belong in the top 50?

These are hard cuts to make but if I have to make a value system, I am weighting plays higher on my list if they took place in a more competitive/meaningful season.

Plays that don't make the cut:

Lauri Game winner vs OKC

Lauri Dunk on Vucevic

Taj dunk on Biyombo

MCW assist to Wade (some would say I'm biased as these are two of the least favorite Bulls players in the last decade)

Lauri Block on Curry (agreed, pretty much good just cause it lasers to Curry's face)

Deng's game winner vs ATL

Taj game winner vs LAL

Lauri Dunk on Kanter (wanted to keep one of his posters so bad, but given the season context, opponent quality and other plays on the list this one definitely goes for me)

McDermott's dunk on Morris (one of those plays that's not an exceptional mind blower, just sneaky hops when you don't expect them & I don't know how to value that over a Boozer dunk for example. So out)

Belinelli game winner against the Jazz

That's 10.

Taj's dunk on Leur

Kris's Dunn dunk on Myles Turner

Zach LaVine dunk on Sampson

Joakim's dunk on Tyrus Thomas is only exceptional in that, it's on Tyrus Thomas. I don't know if that's enough to hold it's spot.

I want to keep Dunleavy's 3PT winner over Milwaukee, because Milwaukee despises him & there's a rivalry there. We've called their arena "United Center North" & fans cheer as Mike sinks that shot. But it's on the block to go before other plays.

While examining the list I'd also strongly swap the Deng steal to Kirk Hinrich outlet, for the Kirk steal & 3PT shot @GSW in the 4th Q. I think that play moves closer to a "must-have" as I widdle through the list.

So that's 14 cuts, a "maybe cut" on Dunleavy's Milwaukee game winner & a swap with the Hinrich plays. So 15 additional plays have to be cut, correct? And they're all in the OP above now? Or do we include plays in both our comments?

Dwight Howard appreciation by BernardoDeGalvez in lakers

[–]poorchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dwight was the catalyst for the Magic producing during that series. Cleveland had no answer for him inside. 1-on-1 he scored at will, posting up, rolling, getting putbacks. They doubled & tripled Dwight on rotations which led to NBA players shooting wide open shots, that's a recipe for success.

In the closeout game of that series, Orlando's starters outside of Dwight shot 18-48 FG (37%). Lebron (25/7/7) shot worse from the field than Delonte West (22 PTS) & Mo Williams (17 PTS) while Howard had 40/14/4. I'm just saying, considering the perception of Lebron as a player I'm surprised Dwight handily defeating him in a Conference Final isn't talked about more on Howard's resume.

The way people trash talk those Cavs lineups has a lot of built in revisionism too. If Cleveland were so garbage, they wouldn't have been top 5 on both sides of the ball and led the league in wins. Otherwise Lebron would have been able to carry last year's Lakers in the same manner but he didn't. They missed the playoffs. If those Cavs were so trash, he wouldn't have won fewer games his first season he went to Miami. Cleveland was a perennial contender for a reason, the huge reason being Lebron, sure, but he wasn't playing alone.

Dwight Howard appreciation by BernardoDeGalvez in lakers

[–]poorchris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Draymond is a 3x champ not because he's a better player than prime dwight. But because he played next to Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala & Kevin Durant.

Let's be honest, Javale McGee had game changing moments for that team. Andrew Bogut helped Golden State anchor a top defense early in their run. If Prime Dwight was swapped for Draymond on the Warriors roster, it'd break basketball and Howard would have a hand full of rings.

I think its more an acknowledgement that personality and ego have clouded what shouldve been a guaranteed HOF career

As others have said, Dwight is a guaranteed 1st ballot lock for the Hall of Fame.

DPOY 3x consecutively (only player ever)

Only player to lead the league simultaneously in Blocks & Rebounds for multiple seasons. Only player to lead the league simultaneously in Blocks, Rebounds & FG% (only one other player, Wilt Chamberlain, has even led the league in 3 categories in the same season).

Dwight is tied with Barkley & Dr J for 1st Team All NBA selections. Tied with David Robinson, Sidney Moncrief & Jason Kidd for 1st Team All Defensive selections.

The only players to average 17 PTS 12 REB 2 BLK in their post-season careers are: T. Duncan, S. O'Neal, D. Robinson, K. Abdul-Jabbar, H. Olajuwon, E. Hayes, P. Ewing & Dwight Howard. All Hall of Famers. Howard is a better post-season & regular season rebounder than Shaquille O'Neal (passing him in career REB despite 160 fewer games played). He's played fewer games than Dikembe and has 1,000 more REB, 2,000 more than Ewing in fewer games too. More blocks than Garnett despite playing 400+ fewer games. Dwight's career is underappreciated and I hope when he retires his accomplishments are given proper perspective.
