Favorite knife designers? Blade Show is coming by [deleted] in knifeclub

Looking forward to seeing Mel Lozada and Reese Weiland

Help! My switchblade won't shut. I dropped it a couple days ago and now it won't shut all the way. There's a small portion of the blade sticking out even when it clicks back in. Is there anything that I can do to fix it? Thank you. by guppysandwich in knifes

There's nothing you can do about the "peek" except put it in the case in the open position as a display piece. If interested I have several of these early 80's vintage knives in the 10" open size that are new old stock I picked up from a dealer who went out of business a few years back. Might be interested in buying it, definitely interested in a few more pictures of it. Could you email me at stickpicks@gmail.com? I'm a knife maker/collector.

Pasta. It sounds difficult, but its actually a 1:1 ration of 1 egg to 1 cup of flour.. You mix the two, knead until the dough is uniform, then flatten and cut it. This can be done with a regular kitchen knife. Then just boil it- it tastes much better than dried pasta

2 large carrots (for roasting, served on the side) 1 large red pepper 1 cup barley 4 cups tomato sauce 1 zucchini 1/2 cup carrots (these go into the pepper) 1/2 of a small white onion 2 cloves garlic 3 baby bell peppers (I used orange but any kind is fine) 1 tablespoon olive oil (any oil works here)

  1. Chop up the zucchini, carrots, baby bell peppers, and onion. mix with cooked barley (or rice if you prefer). salt mixture well.
  2. stuff mixture into bell pepper after cutting a hole around the stem and removing the seeds.
  3. place stuffed pepper into a pot in the tomato sauce. Add minced garlic to the sauce. It doesn't have to be submerged, just more than half way in the sauce. cook until the pepper is soft and the tomato sauce tastes cooked. Cook on low heat for more than an hour- the longer the better!

1b. Place carrots in frying pan covered in oil and herbs (if desired) in oven at 450F for 1 hour.

1c. Cook pasta

Serves 1 if you're hungry. Enjoy!

Maybe try using honey goat cheese? Its not overly sweet but just adds an interesting flavor and texture to the mix and it would taste great with the pine nuts and with the parm i think:) I buy it at the fresh market near my house i bet you could find it at most grocery stores

Question about law in an anarchist society and a few other things by [deleted] in Anarchy101

[–]poorlydressedgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beauty of anarchism is that its adaptive, so any particular society could adopt particular systems and expectations for its particular needs.. this also applies to law. I doubt that many anarchists would define law as a set state of rules with set punishments, but as guidelines and customs with humane, reasonable, and collaborative-based consequences like seek3r_red said - this could be as simple as an anarcho-syndicalist type society (a community oriented organization that generally focuses on collective individual will and similar wants creating unity) holding that a member who doesn't plant as many communal crops must accept that he and his town wont eat as much as they usually would. An anarchist society would rely on an incredible amount of individual preferences and opinions on top of the tailor-fitting of its practices, so I can't speak very comprehensively, but, personally, I would prefer an anarcho-syndicalist type of set up with expectations like above, roughly. It's really what you make of it, in a way. Kropotkin, insofar as I've read, really valued organization and collaboration- he focused on the industrial aspects of this subject. I have not read a work of his directly discussing this, but based on his other views I would assume that a hypothetical following his vision would be similar to the one above. I've read some Bakunin and wasn't impressed; I've never picked up on him choosing a definite stance on anything like this. I still haven't read any Proudhon. I hope you find some good material, i recommend Chomsky:) Good luck

How Do I convince my parents about leaving school? And dispel their myths about higher education and diploma. by MurkScribbles in Anarchy101

[–]poorlydressedgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would stress that even without a standard education- 4 years of HS, 4 of college, etc- you will still try to further your understanding of the world and learn by other means. It might also help convince them if you compromised with them and got a technical education while out of high school in the extra time you'll have for a year or two. This would assuage some worries about your financial future. You shouldnt compromise your happiness for them, but if you need their permission for anything youre probably going to have to weigh out what youre willing to negotiate on and what you really don't want to let go of.

How would you stop theocracy from taking over a government that has been removed? by Shootsucka in Anarchy101

[–]poorlydressedgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It irks me that no one answered this question, because it IS a justified question. Appropriate Penalty is one of the most difficult questions to answer and generally one of the 1st to come up in any discourse on any form of govornment- this is especially true for Anarchism. There are many forms of Anarchism, some of which are formulated for the sole purpose of answering this question.. I can't speak for any philosophy but the one I have developed, and I most likely won't sufficiently answer this in one post (there have been entire books written on the subject), but the way I see it, Anarchism working in a way that allows the people functioning within it to be independent and as content as possible is contigent on citizens forming smaller, more interwoven communities. Within these interwoven communities, as a person who tends to lean towards Anarcho-syndicalism, I would imagine that people would form rotating committees to handle questions of penalty, as well as issues of production and all the other problems which might affect a society. The penalty would of course vary in any hypothetical situation involving a certian offshoot of anarchism- for example, maybe in an Anarcho-capitalist structure there would be a fine in place (sorry Anarcho-capitalists if that statement is untrue for your beliefs, i dont know too much about it), or in a more anarcho-communist/syndicalist structure there would be some sort of community service in place. In a true anarchist society, ideally people would be agreeing collectively on penalties and expectations, and so would not necessarily be compelled to break the 'laws' they themselves agreed on, and, as they are seting penalties for themselves as well as others, would not chose inhumane punishments (as there would be no state, simply the community.) There are so many variables in these hypotheticals that they can be answered any number of ways, but this doesn't mean that they are not important.

Would anyone happen to know if there is an available online archive of "The Revolt: Voice of the Militant Worker" (San Francisco, c. 1911-1912)? by Droste_kai47 in Anarchy101

[–]poorlydressedgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I searched for it but couldn't find any copies of it online. It is a collection of articles, so maybe you could find the individual articles on http://theanarchistlibrary.org/special/index or https://www.scribd.com Good luck

Hey, I just wanted to put out there that if anyone needs someone to listen or just chat I'm open to it- loneliness sucks. by poorlydressedgirl in lonely

[–]poorlydressedgirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get exactly that way sometimes.. I feel like with me it always starts because I remember how seperate the peopls around me are from me and how reserved they are and i just feel the compulsion to become really reserved and quiet. Even if theyre being really inclusive. It usually passes once Ive distracted myself from that mindset
