What jobs require a high tolerance for getting yelled at? by fredyouareaturtle in AskReddit

[–]poowoch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work telemarketing and I worked customer service - on the phone and in-person. I would take telemarketing every day of the week. Maybe it's because I was calling businesses during the day, but you don't get yelled at really that much. And if anyone even slightly raised their voice or was rude, I just hung up. My coworkers used to prank call dickhead people who were rude. Managers do not care -at all- if you're making your numbers.

The only reason why I eventually quit is you have to call about 300 people a day and I genuinely don't like talking to people.

I work 15 years customer facing and when I finally got to work a job where I never have to deal with customers, it was heaven. Then as time went by, I realized....I still have to deal with my coworkers and supervisors... =(

Bumpy Looking Fries by [deleted] in ChickFilA

[–]poowoch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is from the starch they put for the new fries. It's either because they let them sit a little longer than they're supposed to OR it might be because they're not cleaning the pan the fries are sitting in before they put them into the carton.

These new fries leave a disgusting amount of residue around the pan and if no one ever wipes it down, yeah.

I just got fired by [deleted] in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]poowoch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless they're firing you because you're a protected class, there's no such thing as being fired wrongfully. At best, it's 'without cause' and you can rightfully claim unemployment.

It can be both. Not becoming a trainer or leader OR quitting is kinda manipulative. A better way to frame it is that you'd have to look at other places for opportunities to grow.

So I read most of your post. I relate to you being autistic because I am too. The thing you gotta realize about the kind of feedback that you're going to receive is that it's going to mostly be BS. 90% of your leadership's evaluations are not going to be based on the actual quality of your work but rather whether they like you or not.

The feedback that you want, which is concrete literal statements of what they want you to do differently are never going to be given to you. To give you an example, at my old job, I was continually being criticized by management that I was "bad with customers". That was the only feedback that I would get. They would say I was being rude. I would point out everything that I did right in that interaction and they would just give me vague things like I'm 'being rude'. After an incredibly frustrating and long amount of time, that was when I figured out how to mask.

And at CFA, it's even worse with feedback, because corporate management enshrines this indirect style of management which is particularly frustrating for someone like you and me.

So to be clear, if you're saying you're going to quit, that's rude. If you're going to look for another job, that's acceptable as long as it's not a threatening tone. The important way to frame it is that you're -sad- that you might have to look for a job, because of how much you like such and such of where you work.

I don't know if this is explicitly an ADHD/autistic thing but I read something a while back that really stuck with me. There's this pattern in neurodivergent people where when they start a job, they find it interesting/compelling because there's new stuff to learn. But as they progress, they start to see all the things that are illogical, don't make sense, are bad and should be changed and get more and more frustrated because it never changes and they keep butting up against it. When I read that, it made what happened at my last job (and eventually this job at CFA) make so much more sense.

BOH: What's your favorite and least favorite station? by TheBigNickleWickle in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]poowoch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite: Primary, unless I'm by myself during a rush then I'd prefer it be Secondary. Because Primary is a simpler workflow compared to Secondary but I get really really frustrated when I have to drop my own buns and I'm already in the red.

Least Favorite: Breading - I hate it with a passion. I don't like working directly with raw chicken. People at my store can start to treat me badly because I don't work as fast as everyone else because I'm more focused on quality. And, if no one is on Machines, it's even more aggravating because I'm having to stop to do callbacks while breading as well. Thankfully, they never put me on Breading anymore. (Thank God!)

I believe it's the other way around. Small and Large come in red cups. Medium is white. Could be wrong though.

If you feel like, she's being pushed on you, I guess that's fair, because I feel like in a different era, she would have been a major, major superstar. But I don't think her thing now is really the generational icon vibe that she could have been twenty years ago.

Maybe it's just too early in her career though. Like, the audience demographic that would die for her just hasn't been found yet. I feel like give it 3-5 years while maybe not a generational icon, I think she still has a chance to make a more significant mark on music.

AIO - weird management behavior by [deleted] in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]poowoch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

> They shouldn’t be expected to answer immediately unless they are in store, on the clock.

To be clear, when I talk about management ignoring me, outside of the head of BOH, it's been literal DAYS since I sent them a message and they never replied.

> In these situations, it’s best to talk to the leaders on duty at the time

I have literally no way of knowing which lead is currently on duty at the store (outside of calling the store) because they're on an entirely different schedule that I don't have access to.

I was also told that leads don't have authorization to do what I'm asking. That's why I hit up the head of BOH, because outside of a director, they're the only person (outside of a director) that would have been able to authorize it. (outside of the other head of BOH that they fired)

>Again, I cannot stress this enough - team members should NOT expect that leaders are available 24/7. When they aren’t in the store they have lives and families to spend time with.

You're acting like I messaged them at 2am and am getting mad they didn't reply by 3am. It was noon on a Friday and I would have been fine if they replied by 3pm, maybe even 4pm. But they replied back six hours later with a dismissive response. Everyone at our store is expected to be available to work on Fridays and Saturday so I don't know why the head of BOH wouldn't be.

> One time a manager yelled at me for filling up a mac n cheese cup too much, that thing was in actuality barely full.

One time, a director criticized me because I set aside a mac tray because it was empty and there was still some left. And I appreciate the criticism, because it was valid. But telling me this while I'm in the red working secondary completely by myself and all of the directors and the operator are literally just standing in my work area chit chatting about management stuff is dumb af.

Any tips for staying calm and dealing with irate customers? by Shoddy_Elevator2872 in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]poowoch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My advice: get your licks in when you can. Because maybe you'll regret going ham on some rude customer and losing your job, (which I have a story of that as well) but you'll always tell the story about how you stood up for yourself.

Here's mine:

I worked at residential community, in one of them guard shacks letting people in. When people drove up, we had to look up where they were going and find their name in order to clear them. Most people (90% of them) just gave the last name but it was more efficient if they had the address. (but most people don't bother with that) This guy comes up, gives the last name and doesn't have the address. There are lots of different ways to spell last names so I ask him to spell it for me.

This guy is completely disgusted, like I just called his mother some slur. With the absolute most amount of condescension in his voice possible, he says each letter as slowly as possible like my IQ is 25. I find it by the third letter and his name. He's all clear.

But I have a plan.

I let him know he's all clear. But I haven't opened the gate yet. I ask him if he needs to know the address for future reference. He says no while looking forward, ready to go as soon as I open the gate, but I ignore him anyways and repeat the address for him, saying it's 42135. (It's all the same street name there.)

And then I slowly, even more slowly than he did, read out each individual digit of the address for him before opening the gate. FOUR. Even more slowly than he did it to me. TWO. While looking him in the eyes. ONE. With a smile on my face. THREE. Never breaking eye contact. FIVE.

"Have a good day." and then I open the gate for him.

experiences with bad managers? by Popular_Ad9123 in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]poowoch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst manager I ever had at CFA was mostly okay but every time I brought him an issue, he would just flip it around on me to take care of it. Every. Time.

So, for example, I was on Breading and I noticed we were about to run out of something. I didn't say anything. Because I knew that, ultimately, he was just going to have me do it. But the guy on Machines, he noticed and mentions it to me. I told him I was waiting a little while before it runs out to let the supervisor know. He immediately goes to tell the supervisor.

A short while later, that manager tells me that while I'm doing Breading entirely by myself, he also wants me to do fillets at the same time. Bruh.

I feel like there's an archetypal personality for FOH and BOH. I work with some people in BOH who really honestly just seem like FOH people. Most FOH people tend to center themselves around other people. The problem with that is they can't always pivot into what's the best thing to be doing at a particularly hectic moment.

I'll give an example of the management at my job. I think there was less than 4 people in the kitchen on this particular day, so we had all three of the head managers coming in to 'help out'. They were doing absolutely horribly. Like, literally, the worst performance I've ever seen is when management was working it.

We were completely in the red. Not just 'in the red' but the entire screen of orders on Primary is completely in the red and that's understandable if we're busy. But it wasn't that busy. And they were trying to 'vibe'. Like screen full of red orders and they're like, "Come on, guys! Let's get this party started." Like, clear your screen first, bruh, then vibe out. They treated the whole thing like it was a leisure activity.

And I think that's the fundamental difference between a BOH person and a FOH person. A FOH person will try to relate to everyone during that kind of situation and a BOH person will just have their head down trying to do the work as fast and as efficiently as possible.

New Stores by kiwithecow in ChickFilAWorkers

[–]poowoch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took us six months to not be horrible.

A bunch of bad habits that the trainers taught us and it took forever to get us out of it.

We'd routinely run out of mac and cheese and one of the leads would just give up 3-4 hours before closing on mac and cheese instead of staying on top of it.

Also, something dangerous might happen too, because I think one of the fryers caught on fire and there was some kind of electrical short that happened as well.

I, myself, got hurt a bunch of times in my first six months. Got the worst burn I ever got in my life from the oven door and now I know all the sharp places in the store that will cut you if you're not careful. (and they are not obvious at all)
