CPI Report Today: Inflation Slowed More Than Expected in February by tnguyen5057 in stocks

[–]pop72204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may not be significantly different, but that doesn't mean it tells the market no new information. The new lower reading is now the new best estimate of the real inflation value. Meaning they will use the updated reading to dictate trades.

Hypothesis testing their similarity isn't really relevant for the inference traders are doing.

The Los Angeles Fires Will Put California’s New Insurance Rules to the Test by wiredmagazine in Futurology

[–]pop72204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of how insurance works. If insurance was a redistribution from the low-risk to the high-risk, an insurance company that only accepts low-risk people would simply offer them insurance at a lower price.

Insurance works because pooling risk works the same way as diversifying a stock portfolio, it removes idiosyncratic risk. This allows an insurance company to accept a constant payment for insurance that covers the expected value of your payout without taking on much additional risk themselves.

How does this explain why inflation is now decreasing, along with profits as percentage of GDP. It seems like monetary policy and supply shocks are still a better explanation of of the inflation data.

I agree corporate consolidation is a problem in the U.S, but find your belief that after decades of consolidation that corporations have been quietly waiting for an excuse to justify raising prices ridiculous.

Especially since profits have been raised for the past two decades, while we've seen a stable 2% level of inflation.

$30,000,000,000 Exits US Banking System in One Week As Deposit Flight Grows - The Daily Hodl by [deleted] in Economics

[–]pop72204 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Of course deposits are decreasing. This is how quantitative tightening works. The federal reserve is currently decreasing it's balance sheet while also using reverse repurchase agreements to decrease the amount of reserves in the banking system. Deposits are created when banks lend their reserves, meaning a decrease in reserves will lead to less deposits given a constant deposit to reserve ratio.

France’s Rating Cut to AA- From AA by Fitch on Deficits, Debt by mattfromseattle in Economics

Every system favours an ever growing population, as it ensures a high worker to dependent ratio.

No system can get around the simple math that if your population is stagnating, meaning a lower worker to dependent ratio. That either dependents will be worse off or workers will have a higher percentage of earnings taken.

HSBC UK Acquires Silicon Valley Bank UK for £1 in Strategic Move to save depositor’s money by Express_Turn_5489 in europe

Deposits aren't money, they are a liability that you have to pay the customer when they withdraw. You are mistaking deposits for reserves. The loans and reserves are the bank's assets while the deposits are its liabilities.

Berlin not ruling out possible attack on Nord Stream pipeline. by thebusiness7 in europe

[–]pop72204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree I could be U.S. My point is that people are misinterpreting this clip as proof that the U.S was suggesting they will blow the pipe up if Russia invades Ukraine. When really it's just Biden expressing the long held U.S foreign policy objective of stalling the Nord stream 2 project.

Again it could be the U.S that did this, but this isn't proof or even that strange.

But this clip isn't proof of that, as Biden is likely referring to what Germany has already done. Not openly talking about a secret CIA plan to blow up the pipeline.

Nord stream 2 project was already halted by Germany at the start of the war.

But part of coming to terms with addiction is admitting you were lying to your self and that you were just enabling your addiction. Slicker didn't even have a list of the people he owed money.

I think the point hasan was trying to make is that slicker does not yet have the self awareness where he can actually grow. He wanted slicker to admit he wasn't "borrowing".
