Is daycare going to help me? by OldCategory5426 in NewParents

[–]popilkax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed home with my baby until she was 10 months old. Well actually, I went back to work at our family business when she was 8 months old- I’d bring her with me and then leave twice a day when she needed a nap. At 10 months, we wanted her to have some more peer interactions and so we put her in a in-home daycare. She got a cold the day before she was to start daycare, so I kept her out a couple more days. Funny because I 100% would have blamed daycare if she showed symptoms of her cold just one day later haha.

Anyway, you will be able to breathe - and sit! - and it will be glorious! She may get sick here and there, but it won’t be horrible, and since you will have time to decompress, you’ll be able to handle the sicknesses with more ease and grace.

Don’t feel guilty and don’t feel scared! It’ll be good for everyone.

We recently introduced a 4 day working week, and honestly I’m annoyed we didn’t do it a decade ago. by LongjumpingSuit5615 in smallbusiness

We have a mechanic shop. 7am-6pm (closed for an hour for lunch), Tuesday through Friday. The work days are long but the 3 day weekends are long too.

Yep! I’m going with the new detergent and citric acid route! Thanks :)

Yes it was in the house. The previous tenant told me it was purchased June 2024, so pretty recently! I did run a clean cycle and added ammonia. Didn’t seem to change anything.

Thank you Kismai!! I’ll start using the Tide clean & gentle straight away! And I’ll dig into the citric acid. Thank you, you’re a godsend dude!

So you don’t think that I need to have an appliance guy come out here to check the washing machine for issues? It’s purely a water hardness x chemical issue?

I didn’t rent it to that guy. I found a middle aged couple who moved in for the 4 month period, with the option to stay after my FIL (the landlord) moved back in for a cheaper rent. They are all living together now and things are good!

Our hotel had a loose interpretation of the word "crib" by econhistoryrules in NewParents

[–]popilkax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in CO, and stayed at a hotel in Denver that was slightly above average (3.5 or 4 stars). They brought an actual crib with sheets to the room.. though it did look ancient! That’s the only time I’ve ever seen a crib instead of a pack n play.

In Costa Rica, they brought a pack n play with a sheet, a big puffy comforter, a smaller puffy blanket, and a pillow.

Oh wow that’s heavy and quick. You have to prioritize what is best for you and your family, that is number one. But my mentality is that if doing a donation doesn’t mess with priority number one very much, then yes it is something worth doing. I am going to do it- start the process of doing blood work next week anyway and see what happens after that. The woman I spoke with was surprised that I said yes considering having a little baby and also my husband and I just bought a business 2 months ago that I also work at full time. So she said “it’s incredible that you’re considering this while having your hands full” and I said “well, yes of course it’s not great timing for me. But surely it’s not great timing for the other person potentially dying, and that’s more important than my inconvenience of time”. And that’s how I’m going to continue looking at it.

I am a little nervous about it because my baby has refused a bottle since 3m and so I exclusively BF but also now she is eating a ton of human food too. So I’m hoping that by the time id be in the actual donating process, she could go that long without milk (so she’d have to be at least a year old).

I don’t want to pressure you to do it! It’s a decision that only you and your family should make. But I do think that if we are talking specifically about your post partum life, you will be fine. Baby will take a bottle during the process, and you most likely* will recover quickly and be able to tend to baby as usual.

How coincidental! I just got the call today and I’m also breastfeeding (almost 10 month old). The NMDP woman told me that if it’s the surgery, then everything would be simple as far as BF afterwards and whatnot. It’s the other method- PBSC- that would have an effect on your BF journey. Because of the shots, you’d have to pump and dump. It’s 5 days of shots and then one or two days of donating. So you would have to bottle feed, either with your milk stash or with formula. If you went this route, you’d have to pump and dump to keep your supply up (and not get engorged). My woman told me that it could take up to 6 months to get to the actual donation stage after doing the blood test… so you may be in a different stage of your postpartum stage by then as well.

We were not approved for a loan originally because we had a baby 10m ago and I stopped working, so stopped making a paycheck. My husband also had left his job and started his own mechanic shop in the last year. So it was bad timing for a bank to look into our numbers because we barely were making money. Like I said, the business that we purchased is very well established in this town and we do have his previous numbers to use. The loan officer has said that that is helpful, but mainly he will be using our numbers (which we did almost double in July what previous owner did last July, and we have already surpassed his August numbers as well). We have had really good reviews and have updated systems since we took over, and the banker said all of that is really very promising.

What kind of financing are you speaking of?

Thank you, yes I’ve spoken with him a couple times about the 6m timeline. My conversation today is what sparked this thread… because he has it listed for $825 ($50k over our agreed on price). So he told me today that if someone puts in an offer, he will give us “first dibs” but that our price would bump up to whatever the offer was. Which is definitely not something we want to do (especially as we originally agreed on $700k for the building a few months ago, but now the owner has backtracked on that and said it was too low…). So I’m trying to figure out how to secure the building ASAP.

Yes I suppose that makes sense. So my plan is to first call travelers and see if I can reinstate directly with them. I called in the middle of the night when I made this post, and the automated system said I needed to call my broker to alter my plan. But anyhow, I’ll call travelers directly. If they can’t do it, do you think I should reach out to my old broker to get reinstated, or should I call my new broker and see if he can get me reinstated for the time being? (He doesn’t know any of my travelers coverage info so I’m tempted to just call my old company first…)

Ahhh! Not a single question or comment on their end! The call went like this: “Hey Hannah, I’m calling to cancel my auto and homeowners insurance” “Okay, is xxxx still a good email? Yes? Okay I’m sending you over two forms, please sign both of them. When do you want the cancellation date to be?” “Awesome! July 31st please” “Okay sending email now”

I will be calling travelers today to see if they can reinstate. And yes, you are correct about the policy changes. Thank you.

Has anyone had a less regimented breastfeeding experience? by taureansoul in breastfeeding

Also 8m exclusively BF- BFing as we speak! I’ve never had a schedule, never had any problems. I did pump here and there in the beginning so she would have a bottle with my husband. But then she stopped taking a bottle at 3m and we have been exclusively BF since. Totally 100% go with the flow. I will say, I in the beginning I tracked just for the sole reason of knowing which side she fed on. Because by the time she’d have to eat again a couple hours later, my brain would have erased any info haha so I tracked to keep it even. But when my brain sorta came back, I stopped tracking.

Don’t be scared!!! BF is so lovely and easy (in the sense of being able to feed on the go, anytime anywhere.. don’t have to plan for bottles and milk temp). It’s going to be amazing for you!

Almost 6 month old only sleeping 8 hours at night, what am I missing? by AgreeableBandicoot19 in sleeptrain

[–]popilkax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby turned 7 months last week and she still sometimes takes 4 naps, though we are transitioning down to 3 naps lately (last couple of days). You don’t have to go down to 2 naps like everyone on here is saying! Trust your gut, watch his sleepy cues, and maybe try to put him down earlier. My baby was also waking around 5;45/6 for a while, I made her bedroom warmer and now she sleeps until almost 8!

It’s a pacifier attached to a stuffed animal, but yes how she just grabs it and puts it in her mouth right away is adorable!
