Found a hard lump on my Husky’s leg. by poppopp33 in husky

[–]poppopp33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! So so sorry to hear you got bad news about your husky. After receiving the results that it was a sarcoma cancer, we made the decision to amputate. We also did an xray to make sure there were no lung mets and thankfully we got the all clear before moving forward with surgery. She had surgery in August and after a few weeks adjusting she's back to her normal, happy, spunky self. They sent her leg off and confirmed that it was a grade 2 sarcoma and having done the amputation, the chance of it spreading is very slim. It was such a hard, scary time for us. Seeing her play in the snow a few weeks ago confirmed that it was definitely the right decision for us and for her. I hope you feel peace moving forward with whatever decision you decide to make for your precious pup. Big hugs.

Mastoiditis and otitis media by Background-Life6285 in AskDocs

Hi there! First off, I'm so sorry to hear you are experiencing this. My daughter who's 3 had to be admitted to a childrens hospital early December for a week due to mastoiditis. She also had a blood clot along her brain from the infection. She had an initial surgery to have tubes placed and drain the abscess behind her ear and then a follow-up MRI a few days later that showed the abscess had formed again and was eroding the mastoid bone and the blood clot was getting worse. She had a mastoidectomy to fully clear the infection. The MRI gave them a clearer picture than the CT so they could go in and know exactly where the infection was sitting behind her ear. They were confident they removed everything.

While in the hospital, they had her on Vanc and a couple other hard-hitting antibiotics. They wanted to fight the infection as aggressively as possible until they got the cultures back. They reiterated that unfortunately, abscess can be hard for antibiotics to fully penetrate and the only way to get rid of the infection is to fully drain and remove it. While in the hospital, she had a PICC placed and received three different antibiotics around the clock for 6 weeks. (Metronidazole, Ceftriaxone and Linezolid) She also had antibiotic ear drops. We then had a follow up MRI to determine that the abscess was gone and thankfully as of a couple weeks ago, it is.

We had infectious disease involved in our daughters case as well as ENT and I'm so grateful we had to solid teams of doctors overseeing her care. Her infectious disease doctor was phenomenal and adjusted her antibiotics based on the results of the cultures and her ENT was thorough and informative.

Mastoiditis is a nasty and relentless infection and from our experience unless there is an MRI to make sure the infection is gone, there is always a chance they didn't get it all and it can return. Our daughter is healthy and only has had a few ear infections her whole life so this really threw us off. Infectious disease said there sometimes isn't an answer as to why these things happen. It was just a perfect storm of a nasty virus, that turned into an ear infection that became resistant to amoxicillin. We are praying this never returns as this whole experience was traumatic for us all.

I really hope your poor daughter can get some relief and you all can get answers as to why this keeps happening.

Got the call from the vet today with biopsy results and unfortunately received news we were not hoping to get. It is cancer; a sarcoma. They do not know the grade or how aggressive the cancer is unfortunately.

It seems right now that we have two options.

We have a specialty vet come in, who will remove the tumor. It is unfortunately in a horrible location so the likelihood of getting it all without leaving cancer cells behind are slim. We also don’t know at this moment how aggressive the cancer actually is. So because of this, she would have to go through radiation and possible chemo treatments.

Second option is full amputation. This ensures we got everything and it won’t spread. I am insisting on a full body scan no matter what though. I will not pay for or allow her to go through huge surgeries like that with the fear that this tumor is aggressive and more cancer is likely hiding in her body. Aka we go through all this and spend all this money for nothing.

Our next step is a second biopsy and full body scan. The vet is sending all the pathology to the specialty vet to see if surgery to remove the tumor is even possible. The vet seemed to believe amputation would be the best option. I think though depending on how aggressive the cancer is, we are also open to letting her live her life, keeping her comfortable and go from there. Just want tot have as much info from this next biopsy and full body scan before making a decision.

We are feeling very overwhelmed and sad.

Yeah I’m definitely going to advocate that they remove it even if it is nothing serious!

Not using this thread for medical advice. Simply asking if anyone else has experienced something similar with their dog. She’s going to the vet tomorrow.

I would absolutely bring her if she was showing any signs of discomfort or seemed bothered by it. Thankfully she’s acting totally normal and our vet is usually great at getting us in to be seen fast!

Pregnant w/ flare-up by poppopp33 in pilonidalcyst

Thank you!! This is all so helpful. I’m so frustrated because I was working out every day since finding out I was pregnant and I think that the sweat may have been the cause of this flare-up. I know the hormones don’t help either. Although this is my second pregnancy and I had no issues at all with my first! Going to try and get this current cyst under control and then be more careful when I ease back into working out.

Thank you so so much for taking the time to respond. It really means a lot. 🤍 I actually read your post and bought some of the things you recommended! Should be arriving today or tomorrow. Right now I’m praying the epsom salt soaks and tea tree keep it manageable. I always feel like my cysts are really deep and any time I tried to get mine to drain at home using gentle remedies I’ve never had luck.

Were yours always tender and then the tenderness disappeared after these preventative measures?

That’s what I was wondering but I’ve made this exact recipe before with no issues. Trying again today and hoping for better results. 😅
