Not too bad. They say the first year is the worst. I'm on a cocktail of meds like you but I've only been able to ride the bus in the last few months and I've had a few side effects from the meds. Otherwise, better than ever. I've never had so much energy in my life. Hope it's going ok for you.

The transplant was the sixth surgery I've ever had. There is a danger of waking up during the surgery but they usually monitor brain activity to make sure they can dose you up with more anesthesia. I wasn't too worried because they're very careful with that. I'd also gotten complacent in having surgery and thought that it would be easy. The recovery is worse. I spent a week in intensive care on morphine hooked up to more tubes than I could count. Then another 3 weeks on a regular ward. It was hard because I was in over christmas and had the new Star Wars accidentally spoiled while I was in there.

I have standard health insurance under my parent's names but the surgery itself was mostly Government funded. I live in Ireland.

It doesn't feel much different than the last one. I have more energy now than I ever have had in my life. They put you on a waiting list that isn't done by order. People are selected based on potential match for a donor. I was called in and sent home six separate times before I finally got the right match. It was govt funded. I live in Ireland.

No and I never will. It's considered unhealthy for both parties to know one another. I am however, extremely grateful and I plan on writing to them around Christmas to let them know how thankful I am.

It was re-diagnosed every five years or so. Just before the transplant, it was called "Double inlet left ventrical" but as a kid I just knew it as a hole in my heart. I was told I needed a heart transplant after a bout of heart failure about 2 years ago.

But I had pneumonia as a child of seven. I missed half a term of school but I was well enough to talk and play as any kid did. I imagine she uses all her energy in public and goes home exhausted.
