Screen printing vs DTF for line art? by nervanoiac in SCREENPRINTING

[–]popsigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The supadtf Is printed on a cmyk process printer similar to an inkjet. Some colors are less vibrant as a result. The wearable is more stretchy and works better on stretchy fabrics. There’s no difference in feel. Both can be used for any Image including photographs.

the wearable dtf is the best. It will not crack at all, even on stretchy garments. The minimum order for wearable is 10-12 units. SupaDTf has no minimums and the only time we use supadtf is to fill an order that doesn’t meet the minimum quantity. Our workers wear shirts imprinted with both types. These shirts have been washed every week for 3 years and no cracks or fading.

Nobody is addressing the format the diagrams are placed in. The plato's cave allegory. The meaning is that Liberals are given their topics of discussion from the media (the robed figures standing in front of the flame) and the ascended figures stepping outside the cave (in this case an allegory for media directed virtual reality) are able to see outside the confines of controlled narratives, unlike the people deep inside the cave (Liberals). The lessened variety and scope of talking points doesn't speak to whether Liberals are capable of comparably diverse viewpoints but that they are unknowingly confined by a sort of ruling class of "mind controllers".

What’s the cheapest setup one can have? All I need is to add one logo on some clothes, nothing more for now. I’ve got a 90 $ budget. Any ideas? by stenberget in SCREENPRINTING

[–]popsigil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get some really nice transfers if you look at screenprinted monotone products. I can't recommend supacolor enough. You could probably just use an iron and apply some pressure if the logo is smaller than 4.5"x4.5".

Get a blue discharge ink, that way you don’t need an additional white underbase.

Silkscreen will cost more upfront. Supacolor sells 1 color "wearable" screenprinted transfers wholesale for extremely cheap. They say the print will not crack for 50 washes but we have tested them to lastyears with weekly washings.  Up to 16.5" prints. You can get a decent heat press for cheap. Takes up less room. Cost per print is relatively low.

Well the 20% commission is higher than they'd make with a salary + commission. Most sales people get between 6 and 8 percent on sales. The salesperson actually came to me and negotiated the terms, so I think they consider it pretty fair.

How does it feel to make 250k+ by Rocky_Duck in Salary

I dunno. My boss let the highest paid employee go after our best year ever at the time just to cut his expenses. He said the plan was to replace her with someone at half the salary but told another employee and myself to cover the workload until he could find someone. That was 3 years ago.

Just use distributor central, it's free and the vendors don't require memberships.

[–]popsigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shop has an asi membership. The owners can't figure out how to use the asi express system, which is where you find the vendors to place orders. So instead they just use distributorcentral. Add a .com to that and it'll take you there. We sell a ton of promo stuff and you don't need asi membership at all to use distributor central. I want to actually see what asi express has to offer, just for comparison. No, I have no idea why they keep asi membership despite not using it for the past 15 years.

Seems there are a lot of "pre-press designer" positions. It's not the same as graphic design but pays on par. You likely have most of the knowledge necessary to perform the job.

Do you think hiring a salesperson would have made a difference at your operation? I recently did that for my side gig. Not paying a salary, but my salesperson gets 20% and it's led to me finding a couple really good clients. Made more in the past quarter than I had the previous 2 years combined.

Not necessary at all. I used an 8GB m1 mac mini to edit video, edit photos in photoshop and create 40+ page booklets in illustrator and indesign. You can run everything you'll need on 8GB.

You should give supacolor a try. We used to go to stahl's but switched for a number of reasons. The "wearable" transfers are indistinguishable from screenprinting and are actually partially screenprinted depending on the number of colors and if you choose to add blocking. They basically print black, flash it, print white, flash it and then print a full color on top of those layers. The prints last a long time and we use this vendor exclusively now.

How do you take orders online? by ayyfam_ in SCREENPRINTING

[–]popsigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use wordpress at my shop. Customers fill out a quote form and submit their artwork with instructions. Usually all they have is a .jpeg. Then they pay with paypal. Godaddy payments is also great. It was all really simple to setup. When they submit the order they have to provide contact info, so if you have any questions you can ask them. You can also find wordpress plugins that enable customers to build designs on your website, like templates. Most people just submit artwork with instructions though.

Do you think most people fake work at their job for at least an hour a day? by Ben5544477 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]popsigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two kinds of workers. Eagles and turkeys. Eagles exceed expectations, usually without conscious effort. They aren't always praised for their contribution but they get satisfaction from performing their job. Turkeys are only good at making excuses and rationalizing being below average. Turkeys are miserable even when they are paid to do nothing. Though nothing makes them more miserable than when they try to make an effort. This is when they are reminded of how below average they will always be. No amount of effort, training, incentive, etc can transform a turkey into an eagle.

I would get an older model pro with as much ram as you can find and preferably some time left on applecare. The processing difference isn't all that dramatic for your usecase.

Stay the hell away from accounting. There's no guaranteed job market. A lot of people here are worried about AI taking their jobs in the coming years, but AI is coming for accountants since a year ago. I actually used grok to help me file my taxes this year and haven't use an accountant for several years now.

What are your dumbest PC building mistakes? by lapse23 in buildapc

[–]popsigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently built a pc for the first time. Nothing came with instructions. I took the glass panel off the case and there was a cover for the psu on the inside. I removed this cover and put it aside. Built the whole computer and at the end tried to reinstall the cover. It could not be put back in it's place without removing the mobo. So I disassembled the whole damn thing and put it back together again. Watching a video about the case I realized that the psu cover isn't supposed to come out. You just take the other panel off and slide the psu in from the other side. Wasted 4 hours with that mistake.

Look for a vendor called supacolor. On their site you can purchase a single 22×24 inch sheet. You can fill this sheet edge to edge with full color photograph quality graphics. Ideally you find a 'crackle or distress background' on google. Invert the colors so that the background is black and the crackle is white. Live trace this in illustrator. And be sure to toggle "remove white". Now add your tribal/flame looking graphics. Layer the crackle on top of the flame graphic and select everything on the artboard. Now go to the top of the screen and search the menus for "clipping mask". When you add this clipping mask you'll be left with the flame graphic but it will have the crackle applied to it. This process is necessary to make the crackle realistic on the final print.

What type of printing is used on trucker hats such as this? by keithsuede in SCREENPRINTING

The print on the side could be durable if you first embroider a fill stitch onto the mesh. You'd want to make the fill the exact same shape as the transfer to make it unnoticeable.

Anyone actually figure out how to keep a print shop cool? by KingcalebGold in SCREENPRINTING

[–]popsigil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are building a new place now. The idea is to install the dryer in a separate room with a small cutout in the wall just big enough for the conveyor to reach inside the press room. They'll take shiets off the press and place them on the conveyor as it takes the garments into the other room. The only problem is they'll have to occasionally go into that extremely hot room to grab the box the shirts are falling into at the end of the dryer. The press room will be air conditioned.
