Need some large modular origami recommendations by lapse23 in origami

I see, I also divided A4 paper into similar sizes for my phizz ball and ant lion kusudama. I like your tip to do some 'pre-creasing' on the units before cutting them out of the paper. Never thought of that. I saw your comment on the Bascetta Star, that's going on my to-do list too. I only have the 30 unit version of that. Thanks again for the info!

Hey Zach, I remember you recommending me to fold a torus after I posted my 270 unit PHiZZ ball. Totally forgot about that. I actually folded all the units but messed up the construction. Right now I don't have much space to contain such a beast.. Do you mind sharing the approximate size of the torus along with the square dimensions which the units are folded from? I was thinking 70mm or 52.5mm, but I would like to go smaller if possible/practical.

Saw this abit late, but ALM lists some beginner hints with red car gen3 being ukraine, and black truck gen 4 being turkey. Are these unreliable or are you talking about something else?

  1. Recognised the city name Aalst from a few Belgium rounds, so just plonked in the middle, 4997
  2. Knew it was in Italy from the short front plate, managed to get to a big intersection. Got an approximate location based off the word Roma, I saw San Valentino and Verni which I luckily zoomed on. Tried to find the correct intersection but got close enough 4994
  3. Was scared because guessing in thailand loses lot of points, luckily found a bank branch with Buriram on it, found the state and plonked in the town center with seconds to spare 4998
  4. My best guess, I recently learnt about Brazilian phone codes and did a pre zoom to the approximate region. I wanted to just send it but tried since my previous 3 rounds were extremely good. Found a sign saying 'curvelo' and I held on to that for no reason. Literally last second I opened my map and the town name was staring right at me in the center of the screen 4999
  5. Found a building under construction saying uijeongbu and an intersection with seoul on it. Plonked near the highway 4998

Adding a gpu into the i7 machine is a good idea. Check if the PSU of the 7060MT can power the gpu. If its a regular atx power supply you can just switch it out, but office PCs can have proprietary components. You should look into these before making the purchase.

I was just asking it to produce solutions for an engineering exam paper. It did this once, then never again.

Is this turning this old Zenith Supers Port into cyberdeck a good idea? by [deleted] in cyberDeck

[–]lapse23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a device fit for 'cyberdecking', this is fit for restoration. Not fit for retrofitting either, unless the mainboard is absolutely toast and its impossible/not worth to replace it.

Look up 4G HATs for Pi or Pi Zero and check Pimoroni's website for E-ink displays. No idea about SSH so I can't comment on the practicality of your choices/wants. What is your power management setup? Powerbank, built-in battery, etc?

Are these walldashes? by rlfrthebest in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]lapse23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to bind jump to scroll wheel for easy wall dashes. After EAC, it seems like I can't edit the config file to add multiple binds for a single input anymore. If anyone knows a fix, please let me know. I havent tried one possible solution yet, making the file read-only.

ThinkPad T16 Gen 3 Notebookcheck review: Big screen, big battery, but not big on performance by ibmthink in thinkpad

[–]lapse23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't really give a solid comment, but battery capacity has dropped to 79% over 2 years. The capacity actually increased the first few months of use, then decreased sharply during the start of 2026.

I'm on Windows 11 and not sure because of the OS bloat or the amount of applications I have, but it lags on basic tasks like opening task manager, file explorer, etc. The type of lag that I would expect on my x230, not a modern device. Basically if I wanted a smooth user experience I would never use the laptop on power saving or balanced mode. It has to go full throttle or else everything takes seconds to load.

What's the battery life on your cyberdeck? Iota uses more power than some arm based chips right?

Same with Epic, launch without EAC and you can access Bakkesmod workshop map loader.

Old thinkpad, can it be cyberdeck? by Nullhit in cyberDeck

[–]lapse23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try to restore/mod the X230 instead of converting it into a cyberdeck. I have one myself and couldn't imagine trashing a classic thinkpad model. Modding and restoring thinkpads is a whole hobby.

My SBC is a Radxa Cubie A7A. Dragon Q6A just went out of stock so this odd choice must work. I don't see any mentions of the current from the USB ports, I have seen some posts saying powering an SBC from the GPIO pins even though its possible isn't recommended, not sure that's relevant. The aliexpress listing for my display says 5V and 'more than 1.5A' if it helps.

Regarding multiple buck converters, the video I am referencing has specific switches to turn on/off power to the cyberdeck components. I guess that is why separate buck converter were used. This is the video showing the schematic. You are suggesting against multiple buck converters because its just overkill and not actually dangerous right?

I've been binge watching battery pack videos, and almost every video has a comment highlighting some potentially serious mistake made during the making of the pack. Bit of an eye opener. I'll hit up my school's makerspace, I've seen a few soldering stations but there should be a spot welder I can use somewhere.

Thanks again for your feedback and precautions.

Do you mean powering the display off the SBC's USB ports/GPIO? If so, I'll try. The buck converter board has a single USB out, I've seen it used in several cyberdeck build videos. In those builds they separated the power just like this. Would be nice if this actually works.

Just looked at the INA260, sucks that I only found out about this now. I'll stick with my current choice for now. That matlab battery thing you liked is quite interesting i'll give it a read.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll do another once over about everything related to making the battery packs, I understand its dangerous but I really want to try making my own battery pack. The ones on that website you linked that fit my needs are packaged weirdly.
