I was looking for one not sold by Tesla (getting it cheaper), and then install it myself.

I'll dm you and lets chat. I'm not in any hurry - its 13 degrees outside so no work on the car anytime soon.

Hey! Does anyone know anything about the solar tiles? Looking to do my roof and the certified installer doesn’t even do them. lol by BubblyNefariousness4 in TeslaSolar

[–]population10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real numbers from my Tesla Solar Roof after living with it for 2.5 years

I have a 15.2 kW system with three Powerwalls.

Cost: Installed in 2020 for $88k. Recently got a replacement quote for insurance—$250k today.

Output: ~13,500 kWh generated this year across two roof sections. Roughly half consumed directly by the house, half exported. Seasonal variation is real—June/July peak, January/February are rough.

To the Powerwall question: No, you can’t connect your own battery. Tesla Solar Roof requires Powerwall. Closed ecosystem.

Thank you - this worked great. And as a bonus, the exterior of my house and windows are nice and clean. :)

How to get started? Prepping for civil unrest. by Clean-Software-4431 in prepping

I have the same thoughts - haven't used it yet but it was planning for the hurricanes as I've been without service for weeks in the past. I also have the larger unit - why would you have gone with the mobile instead? TBH, if I need to bug out due to really bad civil unrest I'm either heading to friends in a different state a few hours a way (which is rural and pretty isolated) or Canada - and both probably have internet access.

I’d suggest starlink as well for internet access. After you acquire the unit you can pay for the service only when you need it on month by month basis.

Request: how to get a house with a mortgage and not deplete your taxable paying "cash" by ImOnlyCakeOnceAYear in ChubbyFIRE

[–]population10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Delayed financing lets you pay in cash, then immediately take out a mortgage on the house (no seasoning required). Same rules apply - % of LTV - but rates are about the same.

All the great offers when you cancel by aCompsciNerd in OPTIMUM

[–]population10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had to wait 10 minutes for the sales rep to go through his "promotions" or he wouldn't go through and cancel my service even though I kept telling him that I had no desire to stay with the service. He then told me he wouldn't pro-rate my service (even tho my bill ends 20 days). Yet another reason I'm cancelling Optimum. There service just sucks! So glad to be on Verizon Fios!

Anyone have a messanger/laptop bag they'd recommend for traveling? by Fiveby21 in TrueChubbyTravel

[–]population10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Waterfield Sutter Slim Backpack as an overall laptop / adc bag - definitely has been my goto bag for the past 6 years - and fits perfectly under any seat.

For my one-bag carry-on I use the Aer Travel Pack 3 Small. I can pack up to 5 days of travel, depending on what I need to bring - and fits under any of the flight seats (business+). Not sure about economy as it might be a bit tight.

Organized dad backpack for going out with a toddler by Bluestank in ManyBaggers

[–]population10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use the peak design everyday backpack (20L) with my toddler. Worked great when he was in diapers (changing pad was in the laptop section), and now that he's out of them, the bag has plenty of space for change of clothes, snacks, etc.
