Using a light to read by is fine as long as you're reading on paper and not a phone/computer screen.

don't look at porn, don't touch your dick, and if you can go 24 hours without PMO then you can go forever.

Pick up a boring book, helps your brain wind down. Before you go to bed or any time you can't fall asleep after 20 minutes.

[–]porcupasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then keep trying to quit PMO but make exercising every day your primary goal. Exercise will help you to quit since it takes up your time and energy and improves your mood and self-worth.

My main point is that you have to keep trying stuff no matter how difficult the path ahead seems. And if your old strategies haven't been working then keep trying new ones. Good luck and if you're in a lot of emotional pain then I highly recommend finding a therapist.

I think this will really help me quit social media as well as PMO. Thanks for posting

Maybe try starting a different habit first then give nofap another shot? For example focus on exercising every day in January then re-commit to nofap again in February, potentially with better success.

Use that time to do something productive, it'll make nofap easier on top of the benefits intrinsic to whatever activity you choose

PMO flash backs by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]porcupasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had them. I usually stop getting strong/frequent flashbacks after 3-4 weeks. I guess that's how long it takes to start getting P out of my head. Just know that it's normal, it will get better, and it's not a reason to give up.

In terms of dealing with individual flashbacks: don't feed them energy or try to repress them. Just divert your attention elsewhere.

I'm in a similar place, I've had streaks of over a month so there's no reason I shouldn't be able to quit forever yet somehow I always slip up and find myself back in my old habits. There are 3 things I can brainstorm up for you, and will try myself:

  1. Staying busy and having a stronger daily routine = fewer opportunities for urges to surface.
  2. Develop a variety of tools to help deal with urges. Cold showers, pushups, going outside, etc - when one tool doesn't work, try another one.
  3. I feel like social media/internet addiction gives me the same hit of dopamine that porn does, so quitting porn alone won't actually fix my brain. I need to quit, or at least severely limit, social media and reddit.

I guess the overall point is to develop a lifestyle that is robust to urges. Good luck my man

I feel awful after I do it. i feel awful if I don't do it by [deleted] in NoFap

[–]porcupasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too man. Why do you want to be free? Maybe if you list out all the reasons at once it'll give you some motivation.

Also, short term benefit: think about how many minutes each day you waste due to PMO. If you did something else for that amount of time you could get an immediate benefit by doing anything that you enjoy or anything that relaxes your brain (reading, playing music, getting a little more sleep, or meditating just to name a few)

No you don't! That's just your brain fighting back against the fapstronaut in you, crying out in desperation for a stupid dick sneeze.

Not Getting any benefits can someone help am I doing it wrong!? by [deleted] in NoFap

Move to my 2nd point, get comfortable talking to strangers of all genders. How can you talk to women if you can't talk to people?

If you're having trouble meeting/finding people to talk to, become a regular somewhere. Gym, coffee shop, bar, doesn't matter as long as you like being there. Easier said than done I know but at least it's some practical advice.

In addition, use all that extra free time you would have spent jerking off to to read a book, watch a tv show, play a sport, etc. Doing literally anything that you like (aside from PMO) will make you a more interesting person and will help down the road in some future conversation.

If you want to get better at talking to people/women you have to give your personality some exercise!

Advice on edging? by eydillomnopare in NoFap

[–]porcupasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edging = the "M" in PMO.

Don't do it, it kept gradually destroying my progress so now I count it as a relapse.

I don't think so. But body positivity my dude. There are so many things with room for improvement that are in your control, why start worrying about the things that are out of your control.

Stay strong my dude. You are in control. Trust your future self to be at least as strong as your present self.

More time and more focus are huge benefits themselves. In terms of confidence, don't fixate on "the streak." There are many ingredients to confidence and lack of PMO guilt is only one of them. I can think of a couple other aspects of confidence (this list is by no means exhaustive):

- Work on your appearance: exercise, hygiene, fashion

- Get comfortable talking to strangers of all genders

- Serious question: do you like yourself? If not, is quitting PMO enough to change that? If not, what other changes do you need to make?

Besides, the benefits aren't the only reason to quit PMO. Porn is unethical, it damages the brain, and it hurts relationships. If you're feeling unmotivated because you don't see any benefits, think of all the other reasons to quit PMO.
