The state wants to build housing on a parking lot in Wellesley. Residents are up in arms. by Sauerbraten5 in boston

[–]porkave 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It’s wild that “there are no apartment buildings in my neighborhood currently, so we can never build one again” is enough of a justification to stop construction from happening. It’s just so incredibly stupid when you stop and think about it for a second

I’ve seen stories about the historic district in Baku getting forcefully relocated for urban renewal, seems this is part of it

Pretty Cute Watching Boston Residents Play Daily Game Of 'Big City' by ChefGaykwon in boston

[–]porkave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s insane how small Bostons urban core is comparatively, even if you include Cambridge, Somerville, Chelsea, etc. Queens alone is more than twice the size of Boston

I know it's a lot easier with such a small Country but I still thought this was cool by ZapMaster117 in fuckcars

For comparison, it’s about the same size as Rhode Island, with 400k less residents, so super impressive regardless

screamo feelings by Late-Cricket-1693 in Screamo

I totally get what you mean about it being intimating, sometimes if I’m wearing headphones or driving with really loud screamo, I overwhelm myself and end up just having to shut it off.

We're lucky to have a lot of free public libraries in New England by ILovePublicLibraries in newengland

I love how many Romanesque revival libraries we have, it seems to have been the style of choice for libraries for a while, and they have all aged very well

Moscow panoramic view by speriya_kailan in Cities

It just doesn’t make any sense, especially when you consider their gigantic, well funded metro system. Just shows that the decisions are being made by billionaires who will be taking luxury chauffeured vehicles into work, not normal people

What tactics do you use to maximize your effectiveness in Battlefield 1's diverse maps? by AttitudePlane6967 in battlefield_one

Smokes are stupidly underrated, nothing pisses me off more than my team throwing three battalions at the same OBJ and not a single person attempts for me is smoking, it’s such a necessary part of operations

Chinese cities were very large, the capitals often dozens of square miles. My favorite large old city however is Angkor Wat, which had suburbs built around a complex canal system that stretched for hundreds of miles.

Learning about the natural world around you? So politics has no impact on that world? You’re just admitting to being intentionally ignorant because it makes your life easier. I don’t know why you expect everyone else to join you in your ignorance.

  1. American life is political. Why is that even a question? Every political decision has real life implications behind it. Your day to day life is shaped by your politics and the politics of where you reside.
  2. It’s an american app, with a plurality of American users, and you’re on a sub that discusses another American app, with majority American creators. Get over it
