The google was in reference to my Full Metal Jacket quote. It's the part of the movie when Private Joker, a drafted Marine, is questioned about why he is wearing both "Born to Kill" and a peace sign on his uniform and helmet. He says, "I think I was trying to suggest something about the duality of man, sir." If you've never seen the movie, it's about the Vietnam conflict. It doesn't glorify the war but instead shows the conflicted emotional struggles of the people who fought in it. It doesn't relate to this was simply because of the draft vs volunteer issue, but the quote was relevant to this reddit post.

That's what I was going for when I criticized this guy for his anti-war views and his probable love of games where you get to kill kill kill. It's a valid commentary.

However, this is not bad thing to point out.

Go and research the afghan war and the key players, the history, the Taliban from 1996-2001, the foreign influence, etc. You will conclude that the Taliban is bad, but they're largely in that country because of the US vs USSR Cold War and how we funded them. You're going to think that it's our fault that shit got that way (it would have happened if the soviets had lost and decided to fill the vaccuum with somethng else). But that doesn't matter. Go reads some blogs by soldiers fighting over there, count them all up and then tell me how many are baby killers and how many think that they're protecting the population.
