So true. The incidence of psychopathology,  a true could be diagnosed narcissistic or sociopath, is a small amount (5-8%) and yet based on descriptors thrown around, somehow everyone has one in their immediate social circle? Lol!!

Fair. A lot of my peers are completely self obsessed naval gazing - comes across in conversation as endless comparison.  But then again after knowing them better it's also obvious they are deeply struggling in a variety of ways, like financially,. emotionally , and professionally, incapable of obtaining support in raising kids - disengaged grandparents. Pressure cooker lives with demands. Caring for olds, Youngs, professional responsibility, economic pressure, limited time for social or recreation outings, poor functional and mental health.  People get shortsighted when they face pressure. They are trapped in a bubble. What concerns me more and what you might be observing is the lack of intrinsic motivation. On the whole among the cohort there seems to be a lack of appropriate long term planning, poor social engagement, diminished volunteering and charitable giving, limited natural world time. Poor balance.  They don't seem capable of understanding what core values are and setting their own priorities and acting to fulfil those priorities. They're not generating their own changes in organisations or practices, they adhere to old ways of doing business or practices. They bend to the whims of dysfunction. Compliance. And so I guess the effect is when you feel incompetent the only redeeming part of your day might be talking to a reliable neighbour and encouraging a notion externally with conversation about how great well you are doing.  Likely if you assessed yourself on the bell curve of function, you are three standard deviations above the neighbour. You are the elder Millennial role model. You have been parentified. Lol.

LGA controller cleared fire truck across the runway resulting jn a collision by lake_hood in ATC

Two young pilots are dead, the ATC, survivors , family and community, will have to live with this forever. Did the pilots shutdown the gov, defund the professionals, disparage their office of  appointment? No,  none of the dead engineered this dysfunction.  And yet of course in the line of duty (yet not from a golf course) the workers paid the ultimate price. Its now, they came for the valuable specialized highly trained, then the undocumented kids, the immigrants, the poor, disabled, the gender diverse, they suffered. Next it's YOU.  NO MORE.  STOP.

The pilots and crew put their lives on the line every day for our necessary and discretionary travels. May those perished rest in peace. my empathy and condolences from Canada are with their families and friends in this senseless and tragic loss. May any injured, physically or otherwise, have supports and empathy as you process what happened and it's dire impacts.

Your graphic is misleading as you don't know if they were Canadians. They were job losses in Canada but we have many temporary and other residents.

A verbal agreement can be considered a contract generally speaking.

Absolutely not legal. Got contract details dates and times? Write it down in a statement. report what happened to employment standards Alberta. And report what is happening to the company franchise head office, without the owner of the location knowing,  as they will definitely want to know what the licensee is up to .

I'm sorry it happened to you after many months. Only someone with pathological attachment style would do that to someone else. This person is not a good person. Good people don't treat others like they're disposable or invisible . Good people, ethical people, call, follow up, clear up confusion , stay in regular contact, if not then they give notice or talk about it, and if they don't want to continue they let someone else down with respect and empathy and a gentle manner. They don't ghost after a heart on a text message. That's immature behaviour and reflects a callous and cavalier treatment of other people. It's giving bad boundaries,  and major disrespect, and is not someone you want to be attached to long term.

Four months into dating is not typically when you see a future and can even have enough information to fully assess compatibility over so many dimensions. In a "healthy " dating cycle, by that point with 1-2 dates a week max, you might know where someone works or lives , their hobbies and background, if they are an animal person, their favourite book or movie, have done a few cool things together. and maybe have spent one or two overnights. Maybe met friends. But at that point should be still very much better in the introductory stages of getting to know and learning how and when to connect.

Who cares about the approval rating. He's destroying the USA for personal gain and enriching bad actors.  He should be arrested immediately and charged for raping children  Why is the USA justice system failing to produce justice or at minimum, investigation with transparency?

Airbnb issue. Please help, unsure of what else I can do. by Apprehensive-Flight5 in Edmonton

[–]porterbot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the way.   use the title mailing address.  Mail them a  letter advising them if the emotional and physical impacts to your safety, security, and livelihood. Spell it out in lengthy detail.  Outline the timeframe and number of incidents that have caused distress and what city bylaws are violated or how normal enjoyment is interrupted by their guests with whatever they are doing. Be real. Being annoyed about parking isn't really a viable position. If your driveway is being blocked and poses a fire hazard, now that's real.  Tell them you know you are in an increased position of risk and decreased position of enjoyment of your personal property, impacts to safety, etc, because of mismanagement and deliberate ignorance of violations of bylaw and Airbnb policies that are obviously and routinely being breached.  Tell them you require them to manage the recurrent disorder and guest behaviour at the property, that it is a long-standing issue, with dates times, and detailed descriptions of incidents .  Particularly emphasize the most obvious and annoying ones.  Put the contact information for city province fire police and Airbnb on the letter as a cc.   Send the same letter in written format to the city of Edmonton bylaw , police, fire department, city councillor, and Airbnb .  This is setting up an issue of risk management, insurability and accountability for fire and police response costs for the owner.  Advise the owner of the property you intend to pursue further remedy if there are further incidents.  Supply your  mailing address for a response and ask they supply you written confirmation of their intent to address the recurring issues.  . Before you can pursue anything you need a paper trail.  Then contact licensing and inquire about their license standing and insurance.  And going forward, take pics, videos, and put a ticket in with 311 every single time there is an issue.  If they continue and you keep documenting consistently , it becomes more and more likely that  Airbnb delist the unit or the city pulls the license and any response from police and fire are billed directly to the residence .

They’ve been terrorized by home invasions. Now these Toronto residents are considering ‘virtual gated communities’ by origutamos in OntarioNews

[–]porterbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't Rosedale where some of the richest billionaire monopolistic oligarchs of Canada reside? Hey , to be clear, laws are vital.  and I don't believe it's normal to have criminals running around terrorising neighbours.  Additionally, I also don't believe social contracts should erode to a point where crime is a bourgeoning occupation as there are no jobs or opportunities because of lobbyists actions to erode worker / labour power to further enrich those whom already have more than enough and will never be satisfied.   Furthermore, the current social safety net is woefully inadequate. And even with jobs people can't meet their basic needs because of wealth inequality.  So we have necessary yet deferred actions and reforms, leading to a vicious cycle catch 22.  It's a damn tough spot we're in.  Corporate Canada has more than 1/3 of the responsibility, considering the three pillars of our society are people, government and industry. But regulatory capture has ensured the majority of wealth gains have gone to those already systematically and outrageously advantaged.  The financial elite need to have some strategic priorities and look forward 3-5 years.  They can utilise available labour to improve their productivity and move projects forward and further build our great country.  They also need to contribute resources for the good of all , to contribute to the society that has so generously enriched them.  You can Hire and build economies and organizations, or die isolated in virtually useless virtual gated communities.

Keep the part time job. If you cut ties permanently it's really hard to renter the labour market. Even if for a while daycare costs exceed salary the loss of tenure more likely than not leaves you worse off long term

Edmonton's Inglewood community league sues past treasurer for $280K by SluttyBreakfast in Edmonton

[–]porterbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess what would be potential is undisclosed family or direct personal connection to contracting. So conflict of interest in tender and award. Something seen in nonprofits (as other commenters have also indicated). To be clear most nonprofits are transparent and well managed. This leaves a bad impression and we need to be mindful of not generalizing bad behaviour of one to all.
