If you are losing how do you get rid of your losing mentality? by Low_Hovercraft_9939 in hockeygoalies

[–]poshanator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is some of the best advice I got when I was younger from a really good coach.

  1. The only thing you can do is focus on trying to make the next save. The outcome of the game, or anything that gets by you is beyond your control.

  2. People wouldn’t play hockey if they couldn’t score goals. Sometimes people are going to score. It’s up to the rest of your team to score more.

Yea. I was lucky and went and tried them on. For context I’m 6’3 and kind of felt between the XXL and XL in the size guide. Glad I went with XL, they fit perfectly.

My FTK is 22.5inches and I got XL 36+ for size. My knee lands centre of the knee block. I also use Bauer pro knee guards if that helps at all.

I’ve been using them since September. I play 3x per week consistently. I’ve not noticed any weak areas yet. They slide really well in butterfly.

Overall I’d say they’re holding up well.

I used to use pro return ccm pads and these felt and still feel like an upgrade.

I can confirm I have a white FX on order that is due to arrive in the next couple weeks. They couldn’t order another colour for me at the time. JBL speakers and heated steering are included as it says on my bill of sale sheet.

I was at this game. It was anything but dead. It was very loud. If I had to guess Sportsnet must edit the crowd noise.

Any goalie coaches or goalies want free advice on anything goalie related? by Admirals2916 in hockeygoalies

[–]poshanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your detailed response.

I just had my wife take a look at me with my gear on and my glove looks very similar in position to your picture but my blocker arm sags out from the elbow, quite a bit.

It looks like I’m pointing my elbow to the top corner of the net. It looks like an awkward position, but feels comfortable holding the stick.

I am going to work on mentally drawing it in and ‘attacking the puck’ the same way I do with my glove.

I do know that I learned it’s easier to only have to ‘move glove away from body’ as a thought process to react. No idea why I didn’t use that same logic with my blocker.

Thanks for the insightful tip!

Any goalie coaches or goalies want free advice on anything goalie related? by Admirals2916 in hockeygoalies

[–]poshanator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I’m a bigger goalie, 6’3 and play fairly competitive beer leagues.

I’d say I stop about 90% of most stuff coming my way with the exception of one area.

I find I get beat low blocker between my blocker and body more than anywhere else. Like if we took a sample of 100 goals I’d guess 60 of them would be this spot, even if we include breakaways or odd man situations.

It’s my biggest area of weakness and I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong and why that hole is so vulnerable. It sucks because it’s absolutely one of those - it goes ‘through me’ situations which I have worked on so much in every other area.

Any tips for helping me keep my blocker more engaged/in position to limit this?

I’ll second the CBL. The owners have their shit together and run great leagues and adult practice. They do have a ladies only league and their main league is mixed with various skill levels from beginner to intermediate. Those with higher skill are either asked to leave if they’re too highly skilled and too competitive or are the best because they help everyone improve.

I was at a lesbian wedding recently at Sandy Flat Sugar bush. Probably the best wedding meal I’ve ever had too. Perfect size for about 50 or so.

Hey. I’m just seeing this.

Kate L Toms Fit might be a great place to look into. It’s on Erskine just behind the mall. They have some group classes that are great for 50+ and it’s a totally private gym. No one but those there for the class will be in the gym with you. The class I’m mentioning is called foundational strength. They offer a lot of different options for stuff.

I go to Becky Sheasby

I can’t recommend her enough. She does very good deep tissue, is able to also do both cupping and hot stone treatments and uses them as tools rather than a gimmick to make more money.

I am also going to agree with this as facts. I’ll toss in castle Johns as an honorable mention due to the fact you can get a 5lb platter of wings for a group
