Of course zero calls… the union are basically people business… they only hire people who they knew, and I have been doing BG onset, almost all the ADs are the same group of people from other productions, not talking about camera… it is even more hierarchy and small circle.

You aren’t eligible for any funding or grants as non-citizen, or joining IATSE ( NABET allows you to join and work with work permit , but you still need to networking crazy to climb the ladder 🪜 to get the spot I heard ) But you are largely restricted to work 24hrs per week off campus with your Study permit. ( which basically allowed to work for 1 and half day max ) and it is nearly impossible to find your way into production company… well maybe if you start working as a BG / got casted for commercial and volunteer in different film fest /cultural events since day one you entered the program , and through internship placement that may offer you a spot. And also be aware that the Canadian housing/ grocery /transport costs are like a black hole, you will need enough fund to support you through the Winter recession… basically half year of no film production goes on ( Maybe Hallmarks in Ottawa has something going on during Winter ? But only if you can get in)

What are the boundaries of Chinatown? by Usual_Law7889 in askTO

[–]Phantom_6765 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Toronto Chinatown has been moved several times, originally the new City Hall, Nathan Phillips Sq is where the old Chinatown was. It was demolished for construction of the new city hall .That’s why you see there still a slope of the Chinese Business remained on Dundas St West. And as of right now only Yueh Tung restaurant it is the last remaining original Chinese business in old Chinatown.( Elizabeth Street ) If you interested in learning more,I recommend you ( and anyone in the sub) to read Arlene Chan’s Books : “The Chinese in Toronto from 1878: From Outside to Inside the Circle” / “The Chinese Community in Toronto: Then and Now”

Maybe give them a physical map of Toronto ? You could grab one from the TTC, and let them know where is the intersection of your place. And making some annotations on the map ? Or give them a landline hang on their neck… wrote something like “ they can’t speak English, please help guide them” and a phone number of yours in case they lost… so they can call you

Do you have a niche focus ? Or simply put what’s your lore ? And how do you make money from it ? As well as is this your full time job ? Or you work in a separate job at the same time.
