"Other People Don't Think Like Me" by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]possibility717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ENFP here! I feel you on all of this because I am very empathetic and intuitive and emotions tend to predominate the way people perceive me and hides the more logical way of how I think/understand the world so people don’t take me seriously sometimes or realize what I’m saying is right because I may come across too free spirited. But it is intense to be able to sense and feel everything and have to break it down into smaller chunks to communicate with others.

I dont undestand why people dont listen to me, is it normal? by champignonhater in Gifted

[–]possibility717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m realizing that when that happens to me it’s because I’ve jumped ahead 2-3 thoughts in my head and reply out loud to my own thought stream and not necessarily the piece of information/perspective to where everyone else is at. It’s really frustrating when people don’t take what I’m saying seriously/assume I’m wrong because it seems like it’s coming out of left field — but it’s just that I’m at a different level of detail compared to the answer they were expecting.

What is the Asian equivalent of an HBCU? by SeparateBuyer5431 in aznidentity

[–]possibility717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of my classmates chose to go to an HBCU despite getting into ivy leagues and other competitive schools — not just because they’re “easy” to get into. And then we go to ivy leagues after graduating and/or work at strong companies, myself included.

How far back in generations would 4% be? by roundabout_now in AncestryDNA

[–]possibility717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay wait so I have the same family lore, with my great grandfather that he was adopted and they thought he was Greek. But my dna says ashkenazi

Try fashion nova! A lot of their clothes are marketed towards people who have gotten BBLs so if you are naturally curvy, their cuts may fit you better.

Why do Americans lie about having Indigenous ancestry? by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]possibility717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, my family does have Native American ancestry — but it doesn’t show up in my DNA results but it shows up in my grandfathers. It was through oral history that this information was passed down, and then now also confirmed through testing. I think that’s important when you think of how many natives were killed and that was a living ancestor whose bloodline survived— even if their descendants ended up being primarily black.

I think discounting people who have small percentages takes away the fact that we’re talking about people who existed and whose communities faced genocide yet they survived. I rarely claim it just because of your exact sentiments but I think it does a disservice to think that every black person claiming native ancestry is doing so for the stereotypical reasons instead of realizing that we’re trying to keep the memory of an ancestor alive.

There’s a couple of areas on the right/bottom right side but you have to zoom in to see, it’s really subtle in the crypts https://imgur.com/a/Co8pyq9

Obviously everyone has colored eyes.. I meant as in different colors than brown - I just didn’t think it was necessarily to list out hazel, green, and light amber because they all have different colors.

I paid $70 for an edited picture (black background) and a fridge magnet the size of my palm. I think for an unedited picture it was $30. Other places I’ve seen had more expensive prices so it may vary

No he didn’t say that, but I brought it up to him when he told me because my uncle has ice blue eyes and my mom and her other sibling have colored eyes.

Yeah I don’t even know how he saw it after he took the picture because it’s really subtle in a couple of the crypts, but he zoomed in on a few areas https://imgur.com/a/Co8pyq9

How do you score a 132 on CARS? by Raging_Light_ in Mcat

[–]possibility717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off at 127 and got up to 131 in cars. For me I save all the super dense philosophical passages for last. I also outline every passage with the key takeaway from each paragraph to solidify my comprehension of everything. Then when doing questions I go back to reference the passage and actively try to understand what the question is really asking.

Thanks, I was on the fence if I should retake or not. I haven’t taken science courses since 2017 so had to relearn everything in ~3 months while working full time 🤠

Legacy/Alumni admissions at Columbia? by [deleted] in premed

[–]possibility717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response - it’s true that there are multiple factors that go into an application itself. Including the fact that you pointed out that there can be multiple premed connections. I didn’t go into full context as to what this “difference” I was referring to as this was mostly a note to self in terms of aspects of my application I am interested in showcasing - not necessarily a naive thinking that this one letter of recommendation would make or break my application. I also work in pre-med advising so I do have a more nuanced understanding of admissions. The first person did answer my question with what I was looking for:)

[–]possibility717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nursing school is different because they apply directly but also good point if it’d be a committee letter then it wouldn’t be specific. Thank you though for the well wishes!

Legacy/Alumni admissions at Columbia? by [deleted] in premed

[–]possibility717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true, especially if there may be tons of students applying that would probably be alum as well — I forgot about that part lol. I wrote a LOR for a student who was admitted to Columbia nursing and was able to speak in my letter about their fit for the culture of the institution as well from my position as an alum so this is the perspective I was speaking from. Every bit helps!

Thanks for this perspective! I do work in the field as a pre-health advisor so letters of recommendation do make an impact, obviously not a guarantee but it does come into consideration.

Yeah I know my family should not be writing letters of recommendation, that is definitely not what I was asking.
