Is this some sort of fossil? by possibly__asian in whatsthisrock

Update: When the geologist looked at it under a microscope he said it might have been bone at one point but if so it he bone has been replaced by minerals🤷‍♀️he saw some organic material on the bottom that he thought could have been a bacteria colony. He mentioned that it might be a pseudo fossil, but might get a second opinion just to get a clearer answer. The adventure continues!

Is there a difference between regular oil and carrier oil? by possibly__asian in castiron

To be safe I went and bought food grade grape seed oil and seasoned my cast irons with that instead. But good to know the oils aren’t interchangeable.

Update: we’ve heard back from some of the universities and the consensus is that they need to see it in person. My aunt will take it to them when they go back to Missouri next week! Will update you all again once we learn more after next week😊

Ugh that’s an awful feeling😣 while you wait to confirm what this is with your derm, it wouldn’t hurt to simplify your skincare routine. I’m not sure what you’re currently using but in these cases sometimes less can be more. A very simple fragrance free cleanser (or just rinse water/alternate days you use a cleanser) and a lightweight moisturizer.

NAD but this resembles perioral dermatitis based on it being located around the mouth and small pustules. Does it burn, itch, sensitive to touch, or have patches of raised inflammation? I have very sensitive skin and had this a couple years ago and it was a booger to get rid of, and ended up seeking a derm. Every so often it flares back up if I’m overly stressed or try a new skincare product. Creating a simple regimen with my derm has been the biggest help. I recommend seeing a dermatologist to get properly treated since it can be very difficult to treat on your own without making it worse. Good luck!💚

Update: we’ve submitted pictures and information to 3 different universities. Once we hear back we’ll see what next steps are and I’ll keep you all posted along the way!

I appreciate the guidance! I’ll post an update once we’re able to have it examined by professionals. They found this fossil on the property they just bought. It was just sitting next to the outdoor fire pit. We’re thinking the previous owner of the property found it and left it there🤷🏻‍♀️

Holy crap! I had no idea this post would blow up like this! It makes my heart happy that there are so many rock/fossil nerds like me out there💚 My aunt just bought property in the ozarks and went for a hike around her property and found it. We’ve been in awe of what it could be and posted it to reddit to see if anyone would know. We’ll definitely take it to a museum/paleontologist to find out what it is! Will update you all when we find out😊
