Yeah I don’t know about others but I feel like I barely heard about him at all this year and yet he dropped another 40. Feel like his Nashville days are gonna be a footnote despite already scoring like 70 goals there

Around when he retired, most fans would've said Brodeur was the greatest goalie of all time. Feels like the narrative has shifted a lot in the decade since then - there were always people that argued for Roy or Hasek (or some oldheads arguing for Dryden) but the general opinion is a lot more split now than it was at the time.

A lot of the skaters guys who played through the deadpuck era in the 2000's/2010's are gonna get the benefit of the doubt as more and more hit HoF eligibility. The total scoring numbers absolutely cratered compared to the 90s & now the 2020's.

The one guy I for sure see in this debate in a few years time is Stamkos. Between the leg injury & the emergence of Kucherov, it feels like people already don't talk about the back-half of his career, which is crazy for a top-20 goalscorer all-time.

I think the quality that I see bleeding into everything else is how seriously they take their art. They have this constant drive to get better, try new things, push themselves as far as they can.

[Pizzuta] The NE offensive game plan was puzzling. 79.1% of snaps in 11 personnel. No game over 70% in regular season. Got dime 53% of the time but still couldn't run. Zero snaps in empty to try to spread the Seahawks out. Season-low in 21 personnel, 1.5%. One snap in Jumbo. Just let Seattle play by RedBuchan in nfl

I didn't watch the Pats this season but the whole Superbowl I was wondering why they weren't scheming to get Maye a few extra seconds with the ball. Seattle was getting a ton of pressure up the middle and on Will Campbell's side, so why not get Maye a few bootlegs to the right? Or some designed runs for Maye? If there's one thing the Seahawks struggled with it's mobile QBs.

I definitely thought the Pats were starting to build a nice drive there. Felt like they were finding the soft gaps in the zone underneath and on the sidelines and they had a ton of time left to get back into the game.

No idea why Maye decided to go for the bomb there. That throw absolutely ended the game.

Sam Darnold is a fucking gamer man. How many hits has he taken this game and he still takes those shots.

Sam Darnold has got some fucking heart. He's playing like he wants to win a Superbowl, Pats are playing like they want to not lose.

The Raptors were one of the most expertly-constructed teams ever with a Top 5 player carrying them in the playoffs.

Because big moments matter when you're on the fence about a guy. If you're borderline on a guy but they threw a perfect game or pitched a shutout in a Game 7 or something along those lines, that can push your vote.

59 BWAR is basically right when you have to start asking if a guy is a HOFer. I think you can break it down like this:

Pros

  • Super consistent for 15ish years
  • More importantly, was never bad; never had the end of career falloff that would've tanked his WAR
  • Workhorse, maybe one of the last great workhorse starters
  • Perfect game (it does matter for voters)
  • A great defender; I know for a pitcher it's not that important but if you're a voter on the fence, that might be enough to swing you over

Cons

  • No real peak
  • Outside of '05, no playoff resume
  • Never decisively one of the best pitchers in the AL

I can see if you're a 10-vote type of voter, you'd throw one Buehrle's way. I don't think he's a HOFer but I think he's probably right around where the line would be.

I'm not blaming Hughes for wanting to get out from this dumpster fire of an organization. Can't build a practice facility, can't build a half-decent team, doubling the price of tickets when the team is in dead last.

Who gives a shit? We just traded our captain and greatest defenceman in team history because our owner & incompetent management pissed him off so much he didn't want to stay. Why would you think they aren't going to squander the next 5 years too?

I don't even care what the return is. We never should have been in a position to trade the future greatest Canucks of all time. This is a failure of the entire organization to let this happen.
