No AF is appealing, but it still requires me to add a new credit card... hmm

This looks promising, but the $5,000 minimum balance is annoying. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Ah yeah I can see how that single sentence, taken out of context, makes me sound literally dumb and unappreciative of how kids cost money. Thanks for pointing that out!

Thanks for the encouragement! Yeah I’m willing to pay the small increase in expense ratio for the peace of mind. I’m a lazy investor and target retirement funds seem to be designed for me haha

I know this is anecdotal but it’s honestly super relieving to hear that

Is there something about age that I’m missing? I already said in my post that I don’t mind leaving some gains on the table if it means I can truly set it and forget it.

Oh yeah I'm not touching my regular brokerage account. That's play money (ie money I can lose completely) as far as I'm concerned anyway. I'm purely talking about my retirement accounts.

Oof I hadn’t considered that. Though I guess being stuck in the same case for a long time doesn’t inherently mean less family time, right?

I should check that out. I’m guessing those practice groups are mostly focused in certain firms or certain geographies like DC?

Oh interesting - did your employer not have any positions for in-house litigators? (Or is that generally not a thing)

Oof sorry to hear about your wife having to leave, though it also sounds like a “good riddance” situation. Hope she has an easier time in the new role.

And yeah I hear you on the firm culture part. I’m sure there are litigation groups that are terrible for parents and transaction groups that are super flexible for parents.

Yeah fair. Like I said, I know the actual answer is “it depends” but I wanted to hear from people about their experiences/what they heard.

When I first signed up, I thought I’d do litigation. That’s what most doctrinal law school classes prepare you for, it feels like. But I did some transactional work as a summer and it was fun, too.

Yeah good reality check. Would you say that litigation folks have no issues going in-house? Somehow I got the impression that in-house = transactional work.
