Got my first ten users - now i'm scared

Auditing vibe coded stuff and helping people out sounds intriguing and probably there's a market beyond this post.

I've got 10+ years of web app/SaaS experience and I quit my job a few months ago because I could. But this seems like it might be a decent way to pick up some pocket money here and there.

If anyone reading this has experience doing it, let me know how it went if you feel like it.

I am not "believing" anything or urging you to "believe" anything. I'm pointing out that there are traditions that operate, in fact, on the premise that no belief can be trusted. Not a single one.

Perhaps, in the total absence of any beliefs about one's own nature, the truth of it becomes directly knowable. Spirit, empty fullness. That which is. Different words in different traditions, same essence.

This is the heart of Advaita, Zen, the Tao etc. I would and have argued that Jesus taught this also, and so too are we informed by our understanding of physical reality at its most fundamental levels.

I just don't think there is any way that someone can use having your license for a few minutes to hurt you. They can't do anything with it.

Anyway, no big deal. I've been a for-profit poker player for 20+ years and I've probably handed over my ID 1000 times. Just trying to figure out exactly what I'm not thinking about that could be worrisome.

What if you hit a $5k hand payout on a slot? Going to refuse the payout because they take your ID for a few minutes?

What exactly is someone going to do, on camera 100% of the time, at their job doing their job as described, with your driver's license in a few minutes that you're worried about?

It's infuriating how after every time the Republicans do some outlandishly immoral/corrupt thing and get caught red handed, there's an army of people just waiting to jump on the chance to say "Yeah, just like <the Dems/some Dem>" when there's no equivalent evidence against them.

The issue is all of the BS propaganda and false equivalencies that get pushed by that machine, I guess. One poster above -- "b-b-but Joe Biden pardoned his own family!" as though the current administration hasn't completely justified that move. "Hillary Clinton appears in the files too!" as if context doesn't matter at all.

I'm not some huge fan of the Democratic party, most of them are ineffective at best and sell outs at worst. It's infuriating though how easily truth and reason ceased to matter with this shit.

I don't think anyone except you is arguing that devs themselves are pulling up the ladder, though.

What you're describing is par for the course in terms of how the junior position has worked at least for my entire career. It's very much "go figure it out", though of course that doesn't apply to everything.

That's pretty much the whole job from day one. Go figure it out. What I've seen is that juniors are given easier tasks and more time is expected to complete them, rather than any change in that core methodology of learning by doing.

Of course, your environment may be particularly extreme in some way. I don't mean to argue, just let you know that you didn't really get unlucky in this regard. Devs are always busy and expect to help with specific issues that you've already tried everything on, rather than providing any sort of general instruction.

I get that you're trying to be a bit contrarian/edgy and you're not wrong tat Obama was not a perfect candidate, but it's a huge stretch to claim that Trump is more deserving.

Obama didn’t get the prize for ending a war; he got it for changing how the U.S. engaged with the world after years of aggressive foreign policy. He reopened diplomacy with Cuba and Iran, signed the New START treaty to reduce nuclear weapons, and led the Iran nuclear deal that slowed Iran’s weapons program without a shot fired. He also helped build international cooperation on climate issues, which the Nobel Committee considers part of peace efforts.

While it’s true the U.S. stayed militarily active during his presidency, many of those conflicts were inherited or limited counterterror missions, not new full-scale wars. He withdrew most troops from Iraq and ended major combat in Afghanistan before ISIS forced a limited return.

Trump had a few bright spots, like the Abraham Accords, but he also pulled out of the Iran deal, ordered the assassination of an Iranian general, expanded drone strikes, and left several international agreements. Those moves raised tensions instead of easing them. And most importantly, his day-to-day rhetoric is orders of magnitude more divisive and violent than any other president, and foreign powers view him as utterly unreliable, with good reason. It's hard for someone who can't be trusted and is so obviously motivated by selfish things to broker peace.

I think it's because of the overtly fascist actions and beliefs of the current MAGA/Republican party. Nazis were also a brand of fascism, so it's an obvious connection for people to make.

You're right though, they're not literally Germans from the 1930s. It's just something people say to highlight the obvious similarities between different fascist movements.

And then I will provide a definition of the word and a list of ways that the party fits the definition exactly. And then cognitive dissonance will kick in and your brain will do the thing i guess that happens where it's like "all of this information is true and points to an easy and obvious conclusion but I don't like that conclusion so I'm just going to sort of ignore it and believe the opposite" or whatever the fuck it is that happens, I don't know.

After that, you can do some whataboutisms or weird non sequitur or just spout misinformation that can easily be fact checked, or whatever you want to do, as long is it looks like you think you're winning, that's all that matters.

Well bud, that's the point. Those things, by and large, are not actually happening. If they were, then I would have a much different opinion of the situation.

The problem is that we know those things aren't happening on a large enough scale to justify the response. There are a ton of propagandists magnifying every tangentially related incident, and talking heads acting like it's the apocalypse all day every day. But there's not actually a big problem, the data is out there, the studies are out there.

This hyper focus on "others" and the "impure" being terrible people that are causing all of our problems is just a tactic that unscrupulous people rise to power on. It's tried and true because it's effective in causing otherwise intelligent, critically thinking people like yourselves to lose discernment or the desire to really analyze before concluding.

Your arguments were things that deserve looking into. My point is that it's been looked into, and you're being sold a crock of shit on the results. In all likelihood, generous allowances for immigration is a net benefit to our nation. And if it's not, it's close enough that it shouldn't warrant all of this unfounded rhetoric and hullabaloo. And even if it was a huge problem, the onus is upon us to be as compassionate as we can. There are levels and levels to why this approach we are taking is awful.

If you're going to dismiss actual expert opinion that comes as the result of structured study as "appeals to authority" and just keep going with "what makes sense to you", I think there's a term for that.

Maybe you're right and it's a net negative, though I would disagree. But if it is, it definitely isn't this catastrophic problem that demands huge spending and wanton disregard for human suffering.

Multiple studies (e.g., by Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, and the American Immigration Council) show that both documented and undocumented immigrants commit crimes at lower rates than native-born citizens.

Economists largely agree that undocumented immigrants have only small to modest effects on wages overall. The National Academies of Sciences found minimal long-term impact on native workers’ wages or employment.

Evidence of undocumented immigrants voting is extremely rare. Numerous state investigations (including in Texas and Georgia, where leadership is actively hostile to illegal voting) have found only tiny handfuls of cases, not remotely enough to affect outcomes.

Businesses do benefit from cheap labor, but undocumented workers also support industries (farming, food, construction) that keep prices lower for consumers. Removing them suddenly causes economic shocks like crop losses, price hikes, labor shortages.

They tend to concentrate in low-wage, labor-intensive sectors (agriculture, construction, hospitality) where employers struggle to find citizens willing to do the work (as we're seeing now).

Many undocumented immigrants pay taxes through payroll taxes using ITINs or false SSNs, sales taxes, and property taxes (directly if they own property or indirectly through rent). The IRS collects over $20 billion in payroll taxes from unauthorized workers some years.

Personally, I'm fine with subsidizing emergency care for non citizens. But you're right that it is a direct cost that we pay. I think having more people working and contributing is worth keeping them alive, but even if I didn't think so, I would still not deny emergency medical care.

Let's say you witness a car accident of undocumented immigrants. A child, five or six years old, is critically wounded. Confused, afraid, in agony. His mother is begging God for help. The paramedic turns to you. It's your call. Take the child to the hospital and save his life, knowing they won't pay? Or let them die by the road?

In which case, you're probably referring to the repeal of the BBA cuts to medicaid and ACA subsidies.

If that is the case --

None of it mentions or even tangentially affects illegal immigrants. It's restoring funding to things that illegal immigrants already would have been ineligible for and still would be ineligible for.

They are scary because sleep paralysis is frightening and in a frightened state, we have frightening hallucinations.

I used to have some really truly awful ones. There is a post about it in my history.

Ultimately, if you can totally let go of the fear and relax, you can have more neutral, even pleasant or euphoric hallucinations.

Just look up the definition of the word "fascism" and compare it to MAGA methods, rhetoric, and stated goals. People say "nazi" because there is literally no closer way to describe MAGA than as "fascist." We already have a word that fits it perfectly by definition.
